If you don't want to go to a gym that's your perogative and there's no problems with that at all. I'm in the process of building my own gym (Room and weights and kit) and It's going to be better than spending my time at the gym waiting for my two favorite gym goers Pec and Bi to move. I've named them this because this is all they ever train. EVER, for hours.

If you're not strapped for cash pick yourself up a bench, assuming you have somewhere decent to put one and pick yourself up a 5-6ft Barbell (You need no bigger, 5 will most likely suffice), some weights 2 x 20 KG, 4 x 10 KG, 4 x 5KG, 4 x 2.5 and smaller if you need. 15's are good too. You've already got DBs so that's great. You don't need an 'ab roller' or anything of the sort, weighted crunches and leg raises will be all you need.

What the guys are trying to tell you in terms of only bulking your chest an abs is that as your chest grows your back must grow, if your chest grows, you're shoulders will most likely grow and so on. Don't stray away from working everything else because you are happy with it and think it will look great with a bigger chest. Work all over because you WILL NOT become a mass monster, If you follow the right routine for yourself and the right diet for where you want to be then that's what you will achieve. A size that is good for yourself. A little extra muscle on your back would look great, it will compliment the chest well, as will slightly larger shoulders and in turn arms, clearly not forgetting legs.

If you are willing to train these (Which you really should) then you will be happier with your overall results. You don't need supps, if you're not short of cash a good diet will be all you need.

I looked at getting a home gym once, but I realized it would cost about £1000-£1500 for the stuff I'd need and a nice size space for everything... So I went back to the gym.

Get an Olympic bar (20KG) and get 2x20KG plates, 2x10kg plates, 2x5kg plates and 2x2.5kg plates. Also get a bench so you can do benchpress and incline press. 12.5KG Dumbells would be ok for a beginner to start doing flys with..... But you might need to get some which go upto 30k or something like that.... All of this is gonna cost a lot of money which could be avoided if you go to a gym...

Nothing wrong with training at home, i've got all the equipment I need at the moment in my garage.

You will however have a problem just trying to make one your chest grow to a decent size without doing anything to the rest of your body. It's a very common novice sentiment that they only want to train a certain body part, some of them learn and take advice, and the others don't and get nowhere.

It's up to you which one you want to be :)

"To put an inch on your chest you have to put an inch on your whole body"

Strong abs you say? One word my friend.......Dragonflag :D

As the others have said, get a bar and a bench. You might find you're not made to have a big chest (that's my excuse and i'm sticking to it ;)) but that's no reason to give up trying!

i love the people who say this "I dont want to be Mr Universe or anything, just like gererd butler in 300, nothing that will affect my mobility"

LOL do people really think that you can build a massive and cumbersome muscular physique by accident? Or that its even possible for a lot of people? Especially without the use of illegal steroids?

I had a m8 who refused to do more than 6 reps on the squat because he didnt want 'freaky' legs. I mean HUH!? 10 years on steroids and a 6000-10000 calorie diet might see some freaky big legs but most people will never be that big. Actually i think it annoys me a little because it devalues the efforts put in by bodybuilders. It takes years of doing 20 or 30 times as much as a normal sedentary human to get that rounded chest, male model look that most blokes aspire to, LITERALLY YEARS! Decades to get to olympia standards.

And then you get mr beansprout 12stone nothing over here worrying about 20in biceps affecting his ability to catch up to busses or something. Grrrr i geuss im ranting, protein shortage or something.

^^^I'm with stupid ;)

Sorry to devalue your years of hard work chap!

That was never my intention. I simply asked for some advice on how to improve in one area. It seems that that is not possible, so people have offered me some advice to help me out.

It seems i was barking up the wrong tree with my approach. You dont learn without asking questions. Sorry for upsetting you guys with my total lack of knowledge and trying to find out how to improve. Im glad you were born with all the knowledge of bodybuilding you needed :)

You didn't upset me in the slightest MV. Everybody has to start somewhere. I only ever learn by first making mistakes.

lol, not at all m8y, its not you its just everyone comes into weightlifting with the same questions, after a while the common ignorances start to grate, at least with me and im sure some other seasoned lifters (im not exactly seasoned but am hyper dedicated).

My advice is work as hard as you can at it. Your body will find a natural level anyway, you wont accidentally become anything, you will work for every ounce, every millimetre and the second you lose focus for a while it'll all disappear.

Thats the truth to bodybuilding. It takes 100% effort and dedication to change and absoloutley zero effort to stay right where you are.

Most people end up taking the path of least resistance, i wish you well in your efforts.

Apologies if I came across like a cockrel, I didn't think I did but who knows judging by that last post.

If you want more advice on equipment for home I can recommend you a solid squat rack with dipping and chin up bars for a very affordable price, I love mine :D

Wardie, your home gym setup is in the garage isn't it??

Isn't it freezing cold in there?? Won't all the bars and dumbells be too cold to handle??

@MV - i think you were the straw that broke Ultras back (and probably a bit of protein rage as well ;))

I think I can try and explain his frustrations.......imagine someone posted asking about football training......"I wanna start football training a couple of times a week to improve my overall fitness. I'm not cut out for the premiership footballer lifestyle so would prefer to train with a Sunday league side at best rather than attending a school of excellence." The poster would be ridiculed for thinking that simply training a couple of times a week would be enough to become a professional. Nobody would post such a thing because we know from experience that the vast majority of people are not professional footballers. The same goes for body building, you don't become pro by accident and we see that in everyday life, the vast majority of people in the gym are not monsters yet you (and a great number of other people) for some reason assume its easy.

This isn't a personal attack it's all in good humour I assure you, look >>> :D

The fact you asked the question in the first place is more than most people do and having seen some of the videos you posted in the past (oo er ;)) i'm sure you've got the dedication and potential to make what ever changes you want :) <insert random motivational phrase here>
