Having heard rumours that Homeworld 3 maybe under development, I've decided to install HW 1 and 2 again.

I was wondering if anyone recommended certain mods? best place for discussion/forum? or getting good mods etc? What are people using and are any people still playing this truly epic classic.

clnpeppers shader mod for hw2 which i think is intergrated into star wars mod.

Star trek mods, b5 mods and star wars mods, all 3 types of mods of them are good for most hw games.

Lol i was lookin at cata videos on utube not more than a hour ago.

yeah hw3 would be awesome, looking at x3 TC gfx and the mothership mod (hw ms) in x3, man a hw3 with that gfx would be amazing.

I was just wondering if anyone was still playing and what mods they used or where the fan base/best website at present is.

They should make another one. This is probably my favourite series of games on the pc.

A modern version would look incredible.

I recently bought HW1 - got through the first couple of levels no problem at all then hit a level I simply couldn't win, so I gave up. Played cataclysm back in the day though - that was great.

A new Homeworld would be awesome however the the dumbing down HW2 got over HW1 I can see HW3 being even dumber than that, and will of course have to cater to the dumb console crowd.

So yes I would love another HW if it had the gameplay style of HW1 and to a certain extent HWC

I think you may be talking about the wrong game. There was no 'dumbing down' in HW2.

Should check out complex mod, that pretty much adds tons of new ships and a different way of playing to the game, tis quite fantastic.

I was the same, The Cathedral I think it was. The only way I could have won was to go back to the previous level and change my fleet config before jumping, and I didn't have a save iirc.

Mind you, I got stumped on the 3rd level of HW2, so I might just be rubbish at it :)

I am not and yes there bloody was.

For a start the fleet formations were cut down massive, research was far to easy, fighters/corvettes did not have to worry about fuel which made fleet movements needing more thought, you could easily win in HW2 with a bunch of Ion Frigates, a handful of fighters and few BC's, with HW1 you had to think about your fights and bring ships along to counter the enemy ones.

Its almost the same as the difference between SupCom1 and 2

My big gripe in HW2 was the auto-jump when you'd completed the mission win conditions. No time to repair or rebuild, you just got chucked straight into the next mission.

If you'd had a particularly bad mission where you'd only just scraped through, you were pretty much screwed for the next one.

The only thing that annoyed me about HW2 was the unit cap on capital ships. In HW1 you could have as many ships as you could get a salvage corvette to.

You could go into the final mission with 12 multi beam frigates, 50 ish ion frigates, 10 destroyers, 5 or so cruisers, not to mention a full fighter and corvette complement. Nothing could stand against a fleet with that much fire power.

Eh? i loved HM 1/2 and the mod community that came with it, but they all jumped ship now and are mostly working on mods for SoASE (and expansions) not to mention they will all jump again when rebellion is out

Shame thegamingunion isnt still around as that was "the" place to be for modding homeworld 1and cata to a degree. When hw2 came out tgu crew didnt like modding hw2 as it was too hard even tho the ppl from tgu mod teams made tools to mod hw1. Was just too long of a process back in the day compared to now for hw2 modding. Once the mods stopped cos of hw2 the mod teams at tgu didnt do much posting and i think thats why tgu fell apart and is now no longer a tgu site online.
