I've been stuck for games recently, was looking around, when i saw some screens of Homeworld 2, and though 'mmm'. I bought the game *years* ago, but when hunting around the bombsite of my CD cabinet (I keep everything, i think there's a copy of ultimate Doom in there somewhere), i couldn't find the friggin' CD! Does anyone know how i can get hold of the game without using torrents and paying through the nose online for it?

it should be available from any online games retailer for a pittance, i remember getting mine again for like £5 but that was almost a year ago now

it's funny though as i just installed and played a few games of it yesterday, so much fun with all three dimensions to use

edit: it should be under the 'best seller' guise from sierra, it's their budget line i think

Played most of Homeworld 1. Finished Cataclysm. Got to the third mission in HW2. Failed. Failed again. Got really annoyed. Sat back, and rethought my strategy. Failed.

Went off and made a failcake, and ate it while I uninstalled tha game.

The first patch released for homeworld 2 reduced the difficulty of that mission. I managed to complete it before the patch but it was just a fluke - insanely hard for such a early mission. Reinstall it and patch it up (so you can get past the 3rd level without MEGA SKILLZ) because it really is worth completing.

Cataclysm was the high point of the homeworld franchise imo

I never finished Cataclysm, but what I did see was delightfully unsettling. :D

For me Homeworld 2 never really hit the mark the way the original did. It was very beautiful, with a belting soundtrack, but the story was a big let down. It was also rock-hard, and I could only fathom out a number of the missions by reading walk-thru's.

I was thinking about hitting the net and buying a copy on the cheap in order to give it another go, trouble is it is proving hard to acquire. I've been doing this recently with other games like Empire at War (which is still pants second time around:( ), The Sims 2, which still batters my hard drive and CIV 4, which is the business!

the thing i thought was most apt, was the music. Adagio for strings conveyed the sadness that was associated with the mission

isn't there supposed to be an other one out after the rights were bought ? Forget by whom but the same people that did Dawn of War?!

can you describe the mission its been a while and I've forgotten

was it the one where you had to rescue 6 conveys or something

I've never been one for strategy games much, but I can still remember playing (and completing) Cataclysm many years ago (late 2002 or 2003...when I should have been studying for exams), on my Celeron 633 with 192MB of RAM and GF2MX PCI 32MB graphics card. Very cool game though, and the main menu music was awesome.

I bought this game just the other day as part of a 3 for £10 deal at a well known high street store... :)

think it was £4.99 on its own.

You had to defend an installation, repair platform or something, from marine frigates that would board and take over it. If they got to it you had to board it yourself to recapture it. Or something. I just remember a red mist of rage :p

mission three, save shipyard, continue to save ship yard from three carriers, mine resources at same time and protect them at the same time... i have no idea how i ever completed it

Its wierd, because I played HW2 first, completed it and didn't think it was that hard.

Played HW1 second, and though it was insanely hard, didn't get very far at all. Preferred HW2!

Uh, Relic made all the Homeworld games (apart from HW:C) and Dawn of War. Quite recently THQ secured the rights to the Homeworld name and brand, although they've not announced anything I think it likely that a new one is in the works.

HW was and is still the daddy for me. ORB was turd as stated above, Cata was ok, HW2 i thought was decent but none a patch of the original HW.

Anyone played Sins of a solar empire yet? If so: thoughts please.
