Homeworld 2 memories...

I'm another of those people who got the original, loved it, a while later got the second, got frustraighted and gave up. Think I managed to get past the shipyards mission, but not much further. I might go back and have another go sometime, but there are a few other games i'm more likely to take off the shelf before that one.

PK!

Did they ever change HW2 so that missions didn't end as soon as you'd completed your objectives? That bugged the bejeesus out of me - no time to mine the remainder of the resources, no time to repair or rebuild the fleet, just bam! new mission with whatever you happened to have left from the last one.

I loved Homeworld,
To me Homeworld 1 had more depth of strategy than 2, I prefered the seperate ships for gravwells and cloaks, rather than ship modules. Both very good games, still mission 2 Adagio in G, a true game defining moment. HW2 never had that scene, and never made you feel for it the same way.

Homeworld 2, had a very clever level balancing technique, and missions would set there difficulty based on your fleet and resources. This was becuase salvage corvettes where abused royally in HW1. Anybody else steal the entire frigate fleet in that massive ball in HW1?

Problem was mission 3, if you had nabbed everything, and stolen everything you could from missions 1 and 2, you kind of borked the level adjusting. As it through stuff at you, that fighters couldnt deal with. A patch did fix that. So strangely enough if you had been really epically good at levels 1 and 2, the third mission was a nightmare. If you muddled through, like I did, mission 3 was **** easy. There you go, you where always told dont steal.

Sleepery, they did that becuase I think it should auto collect everything left over for you. There really was no need to sit around 5-10 minutes without doing anything.

Just get the patch.

Yep Relic have now reacquired the HW licence, and we can hope, they get number 3 out. It will probably take a few years though.

Homeworld 2 I think was also not using the game engine that they wanted to create for it. Which would have looked more impressive and coped with a lot more, in the end they used the impossible creatures engine.

Nexus I loved, very similar to homeworld, but what made me like Nexus was it was small fleet combat. You got to concentrate on a small range of ships, and customize them. Different end of the scale and I would love to see somethng similar to it again. I actually hated the Angelwing, it was the uber all powerful ship. I could ditch most of the fleet and use the Angelwing, instead of using the other ships to cover each other. Think it would have been better if toned down, didnt auto heal itself.

Nexus was a game that was created out of what was going to be the sequel to, Imperium Galactica. I think they ran out of money, and the combat engine was turned into Nexus.

I'd forgotten it did that. It was more the fact that I liked to rebuild and retool before jumping. Will have to give the patched version of that mission another go :)

I actually found Homeworld : Cataclysm (kind of semi-sequel to HW1) the most playable. The missions are more balanced, the ships more fun, and there's an excellent storyline running through it.

Plus the siege cannon is the single most amazing gun in a video game, ever.

Homeworld 1 has the more classic gameplay and more interesting tactics, but the graphics are quite dated now. Although if you antialiase to the max it should look smooth.

Homeworld 2 looks more modern, and the control system is tighter and better. It also has two different fleets, and whilst the gameplay or storyline isnt as good as homeworld 1 it is a great game to play.

Personally I would say start with Homeworld 1 and then go to Homeworld 2.
You could even try Cataclysm the Homeworld 1 expansion, which is still a good game but not as good as the Homeworlds. Problem with Cataclsym was it reduced some of the tactics of Homeworld, and also introduced super weapons. Which everyone hated, as it destroyed the feel of Homeworld.

Cataclysm did have some interesting ships though. The Dreadnought was fun, and most of the Beast missions where interesting (last one cack). Loved Shield corvettes.

Back to someones question earlier.
Sins of a Solar Empire - When is it out?

I LOVED that gun (although not in multiplayer). The fact that it was so slow to charge up and travelled quite slowly made it very hit and miss. I managed to destroy my own ships with it more often than not, but it was worth it to see it in action.

Cataclysm did disappoint in that once you got into the beast missions any ship that was susceptible to being subverted became essentially useless. Some cracking missions before then though.

I do want to play cataclysmlcmislle or how ever it spelt, as i really enjoyed the demo. I checked in the high street today and could not find it, only saw homeworld2 for sale in the common high street store for about £7

all was not lost though, managed to purchase supcom forged alliance for £13 new... bargin

Have you tried some of the online stores.

Im sure I have seen Homeworld on one or two of them. Dont think it was steam, might have been gamersgate or similar.

Ive used Gamersgate before and they seem pretty decent.
