Homeworld players - Which one to play?

Ah phew, not my ineptitude then, got HW2 on release and couldn't get past the 3rd mission so I gave up on it, might have to give it another go.

Just triple checked to make absolutely certain, tried windowed mode and even tried disabling everything the command line toggles allow, still same :/
 
damnit reading this thread has made me reinstall it & the Complex mod, almost forgot how awesome a game it is, a shame relic went bust and never made a 3rd.
 
I'd say HW2 has much more replay value to it, it's a game I've always loved and probably always will.

The modding community for HW2 is still pretty active I believe and you can get some decent additions to it, so I'd say go for that. I'm gonna be one of the few people to say it but I honestly preferred HW2 over the others, really. So yeah, but to be fair where's the harm in starting with HW1 if you're new to it?

I just got homeworld 2 today as I played it a while back and decided on some naustalgia. After trawling around the googles I managed to get it running on win7 x64 by using only patch 1.1. But now ingame I can major juttering when trying to scroll or look around. The graphics of the ships and such run smooth as silk. After some investigation I find its also using a full core worth of cpu from start!

Google isnt being helpful on the latter problem and I'd love to play this again :p Anyone else come across this?

got an nvidia card? if so go to Nvidia control pannel > application settings for hw2 > set mixed gpu / multi display to single display performance.

Also changing threaded optimisation to off may help iirc.

If you're playing the original Homeworld, save BEFORE you jump at the end of each level. Some levels are almost impossible if you don't go into them with the right mix of ships. Cathedral. *shudder*.
 
I played HW2 before the first. I just can't stand the interface and controls of the first game, it doesn't flow at all and even moving the camera feels difficult. Love HW2, just wish there was more variation in the skirmish games as I can beat an expert AI with minimal effort! :p
