Hooray for the Post Office!

I sent a claim to the royal mail (recorded delivery)

They can see that they did recive the claim thanks to the tracking number, but they have lost the claim

The way things are going, I can forsee a time when people pick up their own mail from a central point similar to parts of the USA.

Actually i think we could learn from some parts of the US, although i don't know how different areas work i can only speak for where my gf comes from (mid-west).

But the postmen drop mail into those funky boxes at the front of your lawn, but they also pick it up from there as well, and so you dont need one man to deliver the mail, and another man to go raid the post boxes, its all done by one guy.

Additionally you rarely see dedicated US postal stores like post offices, they have outlets in all the big stores so instead of running around trying to find a PO thats probably now dissapeared, you can integrate it with your shopping.

Don't get me wrong though i have a lot of hate for their postal system sometimes :p

I could laugh at the people that complain that their post comes at 3pm. Why dont you try and deliver to 700+ (more for some posties) houses all before 11am if thats the time you want it.

I've got to admit, it really doesn't bother me what time my mail comes. The condition it arrives in and parcels left practically out in the open are another matter though, as that is just downright idiocy and thoughtlessness.

They should get up earlier then, like they used to.

im temping for business post and they charge companies 20p a letter which is quite a lot cheaper than the royal mail but they dont do next day delivery because it still has to go thru royal mail. Everything that passes to us is bagged up and sent either north/south or scotland cages and then out to royal mail who do the rest. They aim for 2-3 days, i dunno what royal mail are like for business post them selfs or if they do it  But id imagine businesses send a lot more mail then general public, i mean we had 150,000 pass thru our small place in 1 day! And did over 500,000 in the last 4 day bank holiday week we had, its just madness i tell ye!

My postie always arrives before 11am and everything they deliver is always a) the correct stuff and b) in perfect condition.

Maybe my area has the best RM workers?

Never had trouble with Royal Mail. However CityLink are a waste of time.

Problems so far:
  • Ordered a USB drive with next day delivery. Two weeks later there was no sign. I phoned them up asking where my package was, they said in their depot. I said when would I receive it? They said, never until you give us a valid town to deliver to. According to them, Wednesfield (In Wolverhampton) doesn't exist. Finally got my package 4 weeks later, and my delivery fee was refunded. But still, waste of ****ing time.
  • Teeth marks, ****ing teeth marks! on a small package containing a watch. Watch was fine, but the box was covered in teeth marks, consistent to a human mouth. :o
  • Boot print on a FRAGILE sticker on a fragile package. Contents were smashed to pieces.
  • When my iPod arrived, all was well. On time, and the package looked good. Until I found a sandwich inside the box next to the iPod box.
Wasn't annoyed, but was certainly bemused.

IIRC, the true average cost for sending a letter is something in the region of 79p. Social posters are subsidised in the UK by the business customers, bue the acutal cost of sending a letter (manpower, netowrk costs etc) is 79p

I'd pay that if it ment that I got my post before 12!

Personally, i think the mail system is okay.. It still amazes me that you can post a letter and it could be in the other side of the country the next day.

I'm with you on that one. My post arrives at 10am also, say good morning to him if i'm around and open the door, anything to make his job slightly easier - i used to be a paperboy so i know what it's like.

Ours usually arrives anytime from 8am - 1pm, so not too bad, unless it wakes me up (most of the time).

He had to knock today for a recorded item, so I (politely I might add - I know its not the postie's fault and it was a different one to yesterday) pointed out yesterday's extras, and he added them to the pile at the bottom of is bag. The pile was huge!

Well I've had several pieces of mail go missing this year. Strangely they were all rental games I was returning to Gamesbypost.com. Coincidence do you think?

Whoever is nicking them is dumb enough to take recorded mail not just regular. Thieving wasters .
