Hopefully the Future of IT Support (though I'd Need to Get a Job in IT First!)

Agree with comments about degree..they are not in tune with what the industry is actually doing ( admitedly I did my HND about 15 years ago..decided I had wasted enough time and wanted to get a job rather then continue to the degree.)

The industry is moving so fast, the only way to keep up..is it actually be part of it..

Experience is the key, check out some of the volunteer sites...you may be able to get some unpaid work with charity or volutary org..at least that will go on yer CV...or try some of the local councils. See if any of the local call centres do technical support desks..there is a massive churn in those type of roles..so always positions available..(and in the main are willing to provide training..I have a friend who makes a very good living in IT and he started off in a call centre..)..

As above, a degree won't help with most IT support. Get some real-world experience. At home setup some VMs so you can make and break your own networks for experimenting in safety.

Some good news! I have somehow managed to blag my way into a trainee IT Support role, and only a coupleof miles from my house! Good times...

The pay starting is £17000, to be reviewed after a few months... it's a small family-run company, though they still have a fair share of the relevant market.
