Today I have noticed we are short on loo rolls and shopping isn't till next week so went up in loft and grabbed a hoarded pack of 32 Cushelle roll's.
These are not Covid hoarded but much earlier like at least 13 yrs ago.
This came about when we downsized to a small bungalow as I am getting older (82 now) so asked wife who was a carer what did you use the most of and she said loo rolls and Paracetamol.
So each week when we went shopping I went to Lidl and bought one of each. At that time loo roll's were £2.99 -£3.99 and I stopped buying at £4.99 --24-32 packs- I now only have 9 packs left.
Was surprised that they look brand new still - not damp or anything, The one major bonus is unlike todays loo roll's you never put your finger through by accident.
I am looking forward to the next few weeks of bum wiping.

My Parents have always bulk shopped. Even now I could go to the garage at their rented home and pick up 3x24 packs of bumrag and there would still be 3-6 packs left! (FYI I'm 47 my rents are mid to lates 70's)

When we (myself and two brothers) were younger they would buy Half a cow, a whole sheep and a whole pig and freeze it in a mixture of cuts as it was always cheaper to buy direct from the farm/abattoir

During a trip to Costco ages ago, I remember seeing a guy pushing a trolley around with several massive packs of toilet rolls. Literally nothing else in the trolley and he was heading for the tills

Given small businesses use Costco, a lot, it could have been a work stock-up.

My Mrs, like many others, had a bit of an obsession about buying them during covid. I think she had around 100 packs at one point. Thankfully they have been used over the years and have a more sensible amount now.

I really don't understand why everyone went mad for them, then. All the main supermarkets sold out and I had to get some from a smaller local shop. (we were not living together then)

Indeed.
Worst case scenario, buy some flannels. Rinse and wash them. Works for babies, why not adults?
