I had the joys of driving a friends 1.1 M reg Fiesta yesterday and it was awful. The lack of power is dangerous. At rush hour on an island, if a space turns up you have to take it or just sit and wait for hours. In this fiesta flooring it just makes intense tappety noise as it crawls away. The 0-60 is around 17 seconds I believe.......truly awful. I couldn't believe the difference when I got back in my car. Soo glad I didn't go for a crappy 1.1 now :p

Any of you guys ever had the joys of owning one of these?

2 of my mates have them, slowest cars EVER.

3 people in one, 2nd gear at 30mph up a ever so slight hill, FLOOR IT look down at the speedo and find to your horror the car is decellerating!

1.2 punto engines seem to be just as bad, full car and there's no way you're getting up a hill safely and the rear axle seems to be dragging along the floor most of the time :D.

I drive a 1.8 diesel van for work with a fridge and a frezzer on the back with upto 600kg of shopping and its not even a turbo  - cant be anywhere near as slow as that

Yes I've been in a Y reg 1.2 8v Punto and watch it run out of puff attempting to get up a hill.

I owned a 02 reg 973cc Corsa, 0-60 in 16.0sec which was just as bad :p

It's a comfortable car, i'd rather do a long journey in it than mine.........if the engine was decent. I have never seen a car take that long to get to 60 before. 3 of us in the car, constantly changing gears.

The lack of power steering took a bit of getting used too!

My mate who owns the fiesta, his dad actually owns an escort 55 van which fully loaded with tools and two people can do 0-60 in 18.5 seconds.

But it's a none turbo diesil not a petrol.

You soon learn how to keep you momentum up in a car with a small engine. At the roundabout, you'd learn to anticipate gaps earlier. Also, stopping a metre before the line means you get a run-up before you dive in. Power makes you lazy.

Took in the Coupe the other week and they gave me a Getz 1.1 as a courtesy car. It was funny revving the fuzzies off it to get it up to motorway speed. Plenty nippy enough around town, and this was Brum in the rush-hour.

The Getz was nowhere near as bad as I thought it was going to be. It was fairly solid and well put together, the interior was very utilitarian (looked like something you could hose down), but it was solid and all the buttons were in good positions and didn't look like 80s Nissan switches. Comfortable driving position (very high though) with the gears and handbrake in a nice spot and the pedals in line with the smallish wheel (and a spot to rest your clutch foot). It was quiet too (until quite a bit over the speed limit). Far better than the mid-spec Corsa I had as a hire car the week before. If I ever need to buy a small car, I'd look at one second hand (brand new would be a stupid idea). Unfortunately it looks like I'm going to have to swap the Coupe for something <4m in length, so I may actually end up with a Getz.... ooh err.

Parkers say it take 15.6s to get a 1.1 Getz to 60. It was nippy to 40, sluggish to 50 then sloooow to 60. Plenty quick enough for city work. Wouldn't like to have loaded it up though.

Cars like this are just plain crap, as long as their type exists there will be no wonder so many people dont care about driving.

I had the dubious pleasure of driving a non-turbo diesel transit for a few years, and fully laden it was appallingly slow - the slightest incline or headwind and all your speed was gone, plus you'd be deaf from having to hit the limiter all the time.

I remember my uncle having a Y reg mondeo diesil (the newest shape out atm) and that thing was damn slow. I'm sure fox will tell us what engine it had in it :p

That would have been relatively fast. Sub 11s 0-60mph!

i have an 1800 diesel escort.... dog slow in acceleration... my 1.0 panda was quicker! so is my mates 1.0 AX!

still.... it does 55-65 mpg. :)

ive got something in the garage that will do a genuine 180mph+ if i fancy an adrenaline rush. :)
