Horrid

My mate who owns the fiesta, his dad actually owns an escort 55 van which fully loaded with tools and two people can do 0-60 in 18.5 seconds.

But it's a none turbo diesil not a petrol.

Sorry didnt say it is transit so extra slow :(

Wasn't it just dropped into the mondy + sound proofing?

The 1.8 td estate he had was a snail an all lol

lol you are right actually with it being the transit engine, i was thinking of an older transit rather than the newer duratorq motors. newer transits are a shed load more refined than my escort 1800 diesel.

my bad. :o

Before I got my 306 Gti-6 I had a Pug 205 1.1 Look. A whole 1124cc or raw power :D I think it had about 45-50hp? wasnt much but it weighed next to nothing. I put it on the weigh bridge here at work. I think it had about half a tank of fuel in it and it only weighed in at 800kg. From that day on I knew I never ever wanted to be involved in an accident in that thing!

Have no idea what the 0-60 time of it was, slow........... I'd been riding bikes for about 8years before I passed my car test though so when I got it (considering I rode a Hayabusa then) it felt extremely slow but I just used the skills I had learnt on my bike about looking ahead etc and just kept the momentum up and used the brakes as little as possible. It also seemed quite nippy away from the lights, though i had no mechanical sympathy for the clutch / tyres etc as they were all cheap as chips so i just floored it most of the time and it seemed quite nippy pulling away. Saying that I never took anyone in my car so I was always one up. Due to the mega lack of torque in these small CC cars putting any extra weight in them kills them.

It was a heap though, but even at 27 it was still £550 to insure :( It was good to learn in and just drive flat out all the time as even flat out it was slow :D just as well too as the brakes in it weren't up to much either :(

My girlfriend has a 1.1 206 and whenever I have to drive that i'm appalled at how slow it is.

People say that the 1.6 Golfs are slow, but tbh it's far quicker than any smaller engined car and it's on par with the 1.6 Focus.

taking my 96 clio 1.2 with 3 people a full tank of fuel and 3 HEAVY full suspension mountain bikes on the back up a steepish hill was possibly the stupidest thing ive ever done :p

at one point i was sure we where going to backwards down it :(

its does good around town though

Not exactly the same, but a friend of mine has a Golf 1.6 FSI has a hire car atm, and it's surprisingly nippy in the first two gears!

Ahhh surprisingly enough, i drove my girlfriends brand new Golf 1.6 FSI the other day and i thought it was quite nippy too :o

I half expected, with the shove that it has, to have very short gears. I was quite miffed to see that it whips round to an indicated 60 in 2nd at about 6700rpm. Very impressed. Might even record it for the non-believers :p

My mates 1.1 106 seems rather fast. On the motorway it maxes out at 100mph and body roll is the reason why it's still on the road and not written off but it seems to flie around town. I have a feeling it's decatted but it gives my mates 1.4 Clio extreme a run for it's money to 80mph.

I have been on a 'private track' with him when it's gone off the dial on the speedo. I think it has more to do with him getting the gears totally right every change and others not.

But for a 1.1 and £350 it's a bargain. Not all 1.1's are bad news obviously.

It is made from coke cans, of course it will seem rather fast, for exactly the same reason that Rilot's new steed, a Lexus LS430, seems rather slow despite rocketing to 60 in 5.9 seconds.

I agree with Guigsy, I had a 996cc 205 as my first car and although it was slow, I didnt really mind. I loved driving none-the-less and it has definately made me a better driver.
I anticipate gaps much more than my friends who have owned 1.6+ cars since they started driving. Also due to the immense (read: lack of) braking power, I am far smoother in traffic and approuching lights.

Infact, since driving my corsa which has doubled the horsepower I have available to me (as well as actually having brakes!) I have noticed that I have been getting less smooth and more lazy when it comes to approuching junctions and roundabouts - I think this is partly due to it being automatic versus my old 205 which was manual.

I dont regret getting that car as my first car at all, despite it being slightly (read: very) frustrating at the time - it has made me a better driver.

I was quite suprised when i got my 2.3 litre Volvo 740. I expected it to be dog slow, but its fast enough to keep me happy. Easily keeps up with my mates 2 litre HDI pug 307 and another mates 1.6 Focus.

I had a 1 litre Hyundai on motability, which was fine then. It did what it had too, which was get me round town and keep me mobile, so i cant knock it for that. I didnt have 1 problem in 3 years motoring, but god, i could never go back to something so sloooooow now :(

I used to have a 1.1 Fiesta, with all of 40something bhp.

It wasn't at all bad, quite frustrating at times, but good fun around the lanes, trying to keep the momentum up, not using the brakes.

The main thing that annoyed me was that 2nd gear redlined at about 35mph, and 3rd at just over 50. I guess it had to be geared very short due to the extreme lack of power from the engine...but it still didn't go very fast!

The brakes on this fiesta are damn good tbh. It takes a shed load of abuse, we went out for a few beers last night and my mate decided he'd be taxi. Anyway to get to the pub we had to go down some rural lanes and it went through them at about 20-25mph and it carried on running.

I highly doubt my Saxo would take abuse like that?

It all depends on what your used to, If it's your first car then it'll be fine. If you're used to something a lot faster it'll be way to slow. imo most cars are about getting you from A to B, with A being home and B bring work or the super market. If I ever pass my driving test, I'll get something slow, cheap to run and good on fuel, I have a 1000cc motorcycle if I want to go fast.

It is quite scary what you get used to, a lot of people would consider a 100BHP 1ton car 'nippy' and a 300BHP 1ton car extremely fast, at times I dont even find my 125BHP 200kg bike fast :( yet my Bro finds his 65BHP 206 fast.

I had the joys of driving a friends 1.1 M reg Fiesta yesterday and it was awful. The lack of power is dangerous. At rush hour on an island, if a space turns up you have to take it or just sit and wait for hours. In this fiesta flooring it just makes intense tappety noise as it crawls away. The 0-60 is around 17 seconds I believe.......truly awful. I couldn't believe the difference when I got back in my car. Soo glad I didn't go for a crappy 1.1 now :p

Any of you guys ever had the joys of owning one of these?

Ub3r car, my mum has one of these in a 1994 L reg (still has it), infact I learnt to drive in it and took and passed my test in it 1st time.

The lack of power is amazing, I clocked my mums 0-60 in 18.8sec on a good run back in the day. Infact its one of the slowest 0-60 times in a car that I can think of.

You call driving down country lanes at 20-25mph 'abuse'?

I forget to put the word "flood" in lol. These were not puddles, the water was pooring over the bonnet at certain stages. It carried on going although the altenator light came on which it does in mine in the wet. It was making a horrible squealing noise but as it dried out it began to quieten down.

Did Ford drop the horrid CVH engine in this car? The 1.1 that is.
