I currently have hosting with vidahost and a domain pointing to it. I need some more space so am going to move my current website to tsohost, so naturally I want to point my domain name at it.

After this I want to register a new domain and have that point at my current vidahost hosting.

Basicly I just want a breif run down of how I would go about an how long it will take.

Okay original Domin:

setup new hosting
get name servers when setup
change the name server with the people that you registered the original domain with to the new name servers
Then wait upto 24 hours for the dns to update then you can do.

New domain:
Register new domain.
Change the hosting to the new domain - The admin front end cpanel ect does this - Domain controll iirc.
Change the name servers that are given for the old hosting on the domain registars website.
Wait up to 24hours again.

Hope that is some help.

I recommend doing the domain swap first.

register a domain with some one who allows nameservers, Daily.co.uk is pretty good.
registering a domain can take few hours to a day.
nameserver updates can take few hours to a day depends on your ISP (if they cache)

Thanks for the help gents. I've checked my cpanel more than once and can't find anything related to changing the name servers of the domain. All i know are my current nameservers being ns1.vidahost.com and ns2.vidahost.com.

Any ideas?

ask your domain registrar if they allow change of nameservers.

I recently used Cpanel 11 ( or X) great that, you can do so much from one place :D

Just looking at ordering my tsohost package and it says I can transfer a domain, when I put in the domain pointing at my existing hosting with vidahost it says it is available.

Whats this about? surely at some point I need to prove I actually own the domain?

Of course you do - with GTLD domains this is done by way of a confirmation email to your current admin contact address. For a .uk you need to have your current registrar change the IPS tag. Available simply means that the domain is 'available' to transfer (ie. it's been registered and isn't expired, etc).

I'd try contacting your current host to see if they're planning upgrades but then I'd be a bit biased because I know the answer :D

lol.

I'm sure I was sent something around Christmas about account space being upgraded.

Thing is though I doubt it would be enough for my needs, the hosting is for my gf's travel blog and she'll be uploading lots of pics ranging from 5 mega pixel to 10 mega pixel, hence why I'm looking at a 10gb hosting package. This restraint didn't really dawn on me when I bought the original hosting. >.<

I'll just wait to hear from my online ticket :)

It was replied to a few minutes after you opened it :)
