hot chilli's

i like chillies but sometimes you can really add too much.

i find cutting the chillies lenght ways then scraping the seeds out an that white bit they hang onto out.

then chopping them finely (cut into rings first then just slice an slice untill there fine cut)

then spread through the food. ie 1 sprinkle then stir an sprinkle again

MAKE A BIG BIG POINTS OF WASHING ** HANDS AND CHOPPING BOARD STRAIGHT AFTER TOUCHING THE CHILLIES!!!!!

Cool I think i'll follow this advice :D

Doh, didn't realise it was for one person, in which case 4-6 bird's eyes would probably be a bit too much, in some cases they approach Habanero's in terms of hotness (although they are smaller). Would be better if we knew what variety they were though.

As you have two anyway, I'd chuck 'em both in. I don't tend to bother doing anything special with them unless they are going on the barbeque - just chop them as fine as possible, and mix them in, seeds and all. As mentioned earlier, the placenta is actually the hottest part of the chilli - the flesh itself doesn't tend to be that hot really.

If you find it too hot, milk is good as mentioned (but may spoil your meal!), sour cream works really well too and can be a nice addition.

Oh yeah - I'd also like to echo that other guy's sentiments on washing your hands after! I speak from personal experience when I say don't pay a visit to the toilet without doing so, no matter how desperate you are. OUCH (big style)

He said they were labelled as "Red Chillies" from Sainsbury's which means 4-6 will be nowhere near enough for a decent hit.

he smaller they are the hotter they are btw

And i'm not sure quite how you've worked that out when Scotch bonnets are about 4x the size of yer average "finger chilly" and about 15x stronger. :p

Scotch Bonnets and lots of em,

but seriously chilli powder for heat and just a few chillis for flavor and keep tasting

I missed that post :o

Are red chillies an actual type of chili though?

I thought he was just describing them and I've noticed supermarkets (well, Morrisons at least, been a while since I've been elsewhere) don't tend to tell you what type of chillies you are getting, and just label them simply as "chillies". I bought a jar of pickled chillies a month or so back and there was no clue as to what they actually were. Initially I thought Bird's Eye on the appearance, but they weren't anywhere near hot enough.

i thought that, until someone gave me a pizza with jalapenos (sp?) on it, there was water streaming from my eyes. :o

jalapeno's are the best tasting chili you can get and they arent that hot green chili's the proper ones are much hotter, jalapeno's on the other hand i could eat a whole jarful with any meal
