Planning on making some curried mince just for myself.

I'm going to use a little curry powder , but i'm wanting to out a red chilli in to.

My question is how much of a chilli should you put in. I like spicy food, to me a hot madras is quite hot enough.

So how much of a red chilli do you reckon

If your unsure, put the whole chilli in, but remove the seeds(hottest part). Then taste and slowly add the seeds, leave to cook a minute then retry until you get required punch..

Go grow some Red Savina Chillis

Then cook with those and eat that.

No chilli will ever be hot again after that :p

It will probably feel like you are pooping out every vital organ the next day though :p

Mmm Scotch Bonnets...could eat them on their own all day. *Goes and gets some*

BTW - Every chili thread I've seen on here just turns out to be a 'who likes the hottest chilli' competition so I'd be very wary :p.

i thought that, until someone gave me a pizza with jalapenos (sp?) on it, there was water streaming from my eyes. :o

Go to mexico and try some of their pickled jalepenos - they rock!

If you just want to add flavour - remove the seeds, if you want a bit of extra kick add some seeds to the sauce.

Chocolate Habanero or Naga are lethal too.

Bog standard red chilles like you get in the super market... I'd add 4-6 for a reasonable "hit"

Pretty much in total agreement with this post in terms of the habaneros and super market bought. Assuming the chillies are bird's eye (seems to be what they sell usually, mind you haven't seen them for a while), 4-6 should be fine. Of course it all depends on how hot you like your chilli. I'm quite a fan of Jalapeno's, but haven't seen them for sale for ages.

I can vouch for the chocolate habaneros. I chopped one up and put it on a "Mexicana" pizza last night and it was delicious! Definitely made me sweat though! Haven't had a trip to the toilet yet, so can't really comment on the day after ;)

I've got some habanero orange seeds to plant early next year for harvest in spring/summer, although I'm going to get some Antillais Caribbean seeds (habanero family) too now after discovering them a couple of weeks ago. They are officially my favourite type of chilli now - very fruity and sweet taste to them, not as sharp tasting as chocolate or orange. Lovely. Me and a friend tried a whole one raw each, couldn't stop laughing - made my arms and face numb! Cheaper than drugs! :D

It's actually the membrane between the seeds and flesh that is the hottest part.
Scraping the seeds out usually removes this too giving the impression that it's the seeds causing the heat.

The seeds are still hotter than the flesh though

God didn't expect this much interest in my little curried mince.

So for just a portion of it for my self I should add 4 chillies. They are red ones from sainsburys they just said "red chillies"

I am adding alittle curry powder also.

they are about half width of a cd in size. I bought 2. Should I just add em both with the seeds or would that be to hot ?

Sooo back to question chuck em both in or just one ???

Put them both in for good measure :)

If its too hot dont drink water, Drink milk with it instead.

There is also some stuff thats like Yoghurt that is a pallet Cleanser that will stop it from burning aswell :)

Oh and dont trust a fart ;)
