Not at all, it is something you can definitely work on, I've found my ideal level of heat vs taste with most hot things now but maybe in time I'll need to readjust as my tastebuds get used to the heat!
Then sometimes of course you fancy something not hot at all or maybe something a bit hotter than usual on the occasion.
I don't understand the whole think about trying to eat ridiculously hot food. I like a bit of heat, but not at the expense of being able to taste other flavours. If it's difficult to eat, there is too much heat. People don't try and eat vastly over seasoned food, why should we do it with spice?
I too enjoy a bit of heat but not to the point of making it unpleasant to eat, I have found that I get used to a certain level of heat then move up a bit but always keeping it comfortable.
My old man used to sit with a bag of chillies like someone else would sit with a packet of crisps, now he has gone the opposite way & can hardly take any heat. I guess you do just get used to it if you are eating really hot food regularly.
