Out of the current hot hatches of the moment ; AMG A45 , S/RS3 , Focus RS , Civic Type-R, 308 GTI etc etc i believe the Golf R is the best all rounder. Its not the fastest or the best handling , but it does most things well enough in a complete package that is not too flashy that it can be used as a daily driver.

I would agree. I've been on numerous driving weekends involving my best mate and I cannot keep up with his Golf R unless we are literally drag racing on a dry road in which case the M135i has a very slight edge.

The only real advantage is the engine noise and the exhaust note. The R sounds absolutely awful in comparison but it's still a phenomenally talented car. My mate agrees with this entirely but it doesn't bother him because it ticks so many other boxes.
