Hey guys,
My brother has got an XPS 710 system, bought 2 years ago. It's been running fine, and still is.

But I was on it the other day, and the room was getting really warm. Odd I thought, I was just on the internet. So I put my hand at the back of the pc, and there was some quite hot air coming out of the PSU.

I don't know if this is a sign it's dying, or something else inside the case is heating up. I checked EVEREST, and mobo temps and cpu temps are fine, all around the 30-40 degree mark. His 8800GTX is around the 70, but that's always been like that. So I don't think it's something else, it's the PSU creating all this heat.

I don't recall his PSU ever belting out so much hot air, and neither does he, just started doing it bout 2-3 months ago he said. I know they use some Generic PSU's in these things, I'm just worried if it'll go, that it might take something with it. The thing is out of warranty now as well, so I need to be better safe than sorry on this one.

Cheers guys.

buy a new one but have u ever put ur hand behind the psu before that day? it could have always belted out that much air but it possibl could be just clogged up with dust you could take it apart and give it a good clean:D should do the job:D

Warranty's gone on it anyways. But if it still had warranty, I would invalidate warranty by opening the side panel. They usually put those little silver sticker on the inside of the side panel, so that when you try to take it off, it'll snap.

Well, when he first got it, it didn't heat up his whole room. Now it's like a mini oven.

Think I'll blow some compressed air around it, see if it'll help things a bit.

Has it got 2 fans in it? My psu's rear fan suddenly went loud and was blowing out very warm air. Turned out the bottom 120mm fan had failed, changed it then it was fine again.
Then the 80mm fan died about a month later.

Don't worry about opening up the PSU especially if the warranty has passed. Just don't go touching and large capacitors! Best thing to do is disconnect from the mains and then press the on button on the PC, this will help drain any residual power.

The hardest part of opening a PSU is finding all the screws, most are hidden behind stickers etc. You can then give it a good blow out with an air duster. Problem is I doubt the problem is dust in your PSU, Sounds like the PSU could be on it's way out and PSUs are something you don't really want to gamble with.

there should be some dust filters on the front of the case, the fan will be working overtime if they are blocked and is senses excess heat
