Hotmail replaced by Outlook.com

There's a few reasons why only 3 people and a dog use opera, non of them are good. It's a nice idea but in reality it's a pile of poo with a number of superior alternatives available for all but the most ardent Opera fans. Let's face it, it's free and still no one wants it, how good can it be!! :) ;) :D

Clearly you are absolutely clueless, seeing as opera has one of the, if not the biggest mobile browser market share.

Also there is no desktop alternative to Opera that is as feature rich or as quick. Chrome is severely locked down and Firefox is total pants. IE....lol.

Ironic that for years Microsoft get accused of bloat and not understanding people want clean, quick minimalist software that let's you get in, do what you need to do and get out. Now apparently it's not bloaty enough :D ;)

Agreed, Apple do it and people say it is a sleek fantastic original interface (despite having been around since before the dinosaurs had dial up), microsoft do it and its "pre-school". It looks perfectly fine by me. They are finally learning to listen to the punters!

The problem is that the design is clearly worked on in IE where ClearType is MANDATORY and Forced.

The fonts/sizing used when displayed in a browser that does not absolutely destroy visibility with the plague that is clear-type looks terrible. I have nothing against the design as as far as an email client is concerned the simpler the better but the way in which it has been constructed is a little messy.

It's a terrible font to use for screen display, example:

Another useful feature.

Right click on the word categories
Manage categories
Tick unread email

That way if you have rules that moves items to mutliple folders you can read them all in one place.

There's also other categories in there (family, newsletters, etc.) that you can attribute to the incoming email.

Moved nigh on everything over to Outlook.com now. Also interesting that it hit over a million users in a day which is quite impressive.

I was using it on Firefox yesterday and didn't have any issues with it. Can't say I noticed many things wrong but I was only sending a few emails and creating rules.

Opera Mini is 3rd in the mobile browser market share AFAIK, anyway, it wasn't the mobile version that was being discussed.

I was referring to pretty much everything. The only thing I noticed were the adverts on the right hand side as I have TPL's on IE and don't have any ad-block on FF.

I'll double check when I get into work but didn't notice anything really. Admittedly it was on half my screen as I was watching a progress bar whilst doing some rules.

Pretty clean design although I am not sure I am too keen on it. Just signed up, dont intend on using it fully yet, but just wanted to reserve my address, not that anyone would use it, have quite a unique last name.

I just cannot get over how horrible the new site looks... its like I've stepped into 1996, was it designed in safe mode? lol, when I first opened it I felt something I hadn't felt in over a decade, that feeling when you make the wrong choice on the CGA/EGA/VGA/SVGA selection screen :P the whole site has that windows 8 metro look like its optimized for 640x480 @ 16 colours :P (the original 16 colours not 16 million).
Exactly what I thought and its put me well off windows 8

I know its old hat to some, but has anyone else had problems with windows live messenger" since moving to outlook.com. I've even tried adding new people buts its not working.

I tried 4 variations of my name before giving up, guess I missed the rush.

If you want a better chance of getting the name you want, the best bet is to apply for an "@msn.com" address like I have. Been around longer that hotmail.com, .co.uk and outlook.com yet have a much smaller list of taken addresses.

But that's probably because MS hide the sign up screen for @msn.com ;)

Looks fine in Chrome, Safari, IE and Firefox, it's your poo browser :D

I would assume anyone using outlook exchange (corporate really) would not be using outlook express (which is now Windows Live Mail, outlook express is not on Win7 and above) and as for opening outlook.com? You would tell them to open internet explorer and then go to outlook.com.
So nar :p
IIRC newsgroups needed setting on the server if you wanted them loaded via Exchange Outlook, but you could use Outlook Express to load them yourself (back when some newsgroups still had value).
You are also assuming the user has a single clue as to what they are doing :)

Opera, Chrome and Firefox all look identical. The fonts all look as poo as one another.

The fonts work in IE because of the forced cleartype. What is so utterly hard to understand about this when backed up with a screenshot to hold your hand?

Just for your benefit:

doesn't look even remotely like that on firefox, chrome or IE on my PC or safari on my ipad, no font problems at all, you need a modern browser.. :D;):p

Does Chrome use Cleartype? Because what I'm looking at looks EXACTLY the same as your IE screenprint
