House sale dragging on because of neighbour.

The estate agent was there longer than any prospective buyers. Are you sure they aren't BSing you?

Constant smell of weed is a pure exaggeration, so best to remove the emotion from your post.

I don't think so as have had the exact same problem.

My old neighbours who have moved now thank the Lord (did a runner in the night leaving the home owner with a mountain of **** to get rid of) used to smoke weed in their garden very regularly throughout the day. Every day I'd come home to the smell of it in my house despite windows being closed. It was embarrassing when I had visitors.

I'll be honest, I have never looked at a house, and noticed dog poo in a neighbours garden.

And to be even more honest, there's probably 10 dog turds in my garden right now as I've not been around and cleaned it up for 3 days...

The smell of weed wouldn't put me off as long as I couldn't smell it from inside my house.
You're in the very small minority here, people(as do I) look at everything. No one wants to be sitting on a lovely summers evening, having a glass of wine with the smell of cooking dog turds wafting in the air.

Weed also stinks.

Coming back to the OP, a simple conversation like so:

"How's it going guys?"
"This is quite embarrassing but you know we're trying to sell the house?"
"Welllllll, the estate agent (throw them under the bus) made a comment about the smell of weed whenever they've been round"
"Apparently, this could potentially put buyers off on first impressions"
"Would you mind giving it a rest when we've got viewings?"

Alternatively:

"Alright guys, see that minging stuff you're smoking on the weekly, pack it in or I'll tell the feds you're dealing from the house"

:)

I can't smell the turds when I am standing above them, about to pick them up with a bag, so if a neighbour claims they can smell them from the next garden I would call BS.

At least this thread has reminded me I need to go and bag them up though

OP could be talking about me to be honest. We’ve got a few dog poos in the garden that I can’t be bothered to pick up. Though 10 is a bit excessive. Maybe 2 or 3. Usually does her business on the morning and evening walks

I have heard of smells coming through the walls in some council houses, so I can believe the OP might be able to smell their neighbours cannabis even with the doors and windows closed. Perhaps the OP is selling an ex-council house, which would explain why next door is being rented out to somebody who seems to hide their herbal activities from their landlord.

Have a calm word with the neighbours first. Perhaps if things don't improve, let the landlord know that you're considering contacting the council and police about their house and explain why - this might be enough to stir the landlord into having word with the tenants. If nothing else changes, contact the council and police, but this is where I'd imagine you'd need to make any disputes known to future buyers.

Hopefully either speaking with the tenants or even landlord will result in enough action to get your house sold.

This is true but I wouldn't risk it personally. If I went around to a house to view it and it stank of weed and it was the neighbours I would seriously consider not buying the house. I used to smoke so I have absolutely nothing against smoking weed but at the same time I have lived in a flat with some utter bellends as neighbours who smoke and bad neighbours make your life horrible. I wouldn't risk it on something as serious and expensive as a house. They might be lovely neighbours who only smoke a few times a week or they could be the dregs of society who are a nightmare to live next to. Any indication of the latter would put me off.
I wouldn't buy it.
Because if it's on the one day you went it's probably extremely regular and I hate the smell of weed.

Also lived in a flat with people who smoked weed. Thankfully didn't come under the door with a draft excluder. But going into the central stair well was gross.

It really is such a marmite thing. I, obviously, love the smell but my partner who doesn't partake also likes the smell. Enough to be able to discern if it's good or bad quality but that's probably down to me forcing her to smell my wares... Sounds a bit like an innuendo that.

But for people who don't like the smell I really sympathise with because it is pungent and if that's not your thing it can be hard to get away from.

Still, I'd take that over the smell of straights any day of the week.

Yeah I've never done it so the smell to me is really bad. Not like it's going to make me sick like smell of fish but I do not like it. It's amazing really how strong it is.

I would go with the polite chat option and explain you are trying to sell the house, maybe you could give them 24 hours notice before you are going to be having people out the view the property, so they keep the windows shut during the vist, I would not go ******* them off because it would not be hard for them make it even harder to sell your house, by blasting out loud music ect

Yeah, it's just unfortunate people don't consider others. But you get that with everything and one these days. It's like people who vape but want to create the biggest cloud of vapour possible. Then you think you smell something nice and it's just someone elses second hand breath lol.

No, don't do it.

I manage staff at work.

Every single staff who smokes weed always in trouble with HR, always late, off sick constantly, lack of motivation, poor work performance etc endless of problems..

Generally poor wellbeing..they don't look after them.

Just don't do it.

Bit of a sweeping generalisation there, don't you think

As someone who partakes I can’t stress quite how embarrassed and apologetic I’d be if someone knocked on my door and just politely said what was bothering them.

I’d imagine the last thing they want to do is be making your life difficult so I reckon a friendly chat or non passive aggressive note and it would be sorted.

Of course I am assuming you’re dealing with level headed people. As much as I enjoy it and I like the smell. I know it can be obnoxious

Good luck

@Junglist resident tramp :p

It's rubbish weather! I'm not sitting in the garden until the spring now so the odd dog poo out there isn't going to ruin my day. I only get annoyed if she poos on the path to the shed but she prefers to lay her logs in the field with an audience so everyone can see me pick them up.

But sorry OP. I'll lay off the smoking whilst you have the viewings and I'll clean up all the poop

Just helping you warm your hands in the cold!

My least favourite part of dog ownership - that and she wants to roll in fox mess all the time!! But I believe in karma so I always* pick it up because I don't want to step in any myself!

Least our cat has the decency to poo in someone elses garden :p

*Evidently not always as I don't do the same rule in my garden lol.
