Seriously developing a phobia here. I already have an unnatural fear of exploding houses because of dodgy boilers.

I do, I have 1 plastic box in there with some old pint pots in and nothing else (apart from insulation) but I guess it's because I don't have a loft ladder so can't get in there easily
