Hoverboards/balanceboards

Riding one illegally is incredibly stupid but it's great you're advocating for a father to buy his seven year old son one so he can be a law breaker too.

Right. He asked if anyone had advice on them or something similar. I along with a few friends commuted to work on electric unicycles over the last 2 years and none of us have ever had our PEVs confiscated. If you ride them sensibly and don't act like a tit, the police have actual issues to face rather than give you a talking to. Now if you were riding into property or people and being a danger to yourself and others it would obviously get taken away. I don't know where in the country you are but down here i see people riding by electric scooters, unicycles, skateboards and OneWheels pretty much daily as a means of getting to work/ditching the car. Never once saw anyone getting a talking to and never in my 1000+ miles did i ever have even as much as a glance from the police and i rode past a station each morning.

Regardless, clearly his seven year old son isn't going to be riding on roads so not sure why you have the attitude.

Neighbour with 13yr old had one, 2 years back, seems to just get under-used, just novelty, every couple of months on the tarmac area in our cul-de-sac.

Has he had roller skates, or, they do some nice pogo sticks now., better for dexterity/strength/balance ...you'll need the safety gear anyway

It's still illegal but I'm sure the OP and his seven year old son won't mind taking their chances on having their electric scooter confiscated.

Wind your neck in.

To be clear....

I have access to plenty of private land where such things can be used without upsetting anyone or leading us both to a life of illegal activity and crime. Even so, locally we have masses of cycle paths/fields which many local young children often use for their bikes, scooters, skates (inc electric versions) whilst under supervision of their parents. From what I see when out most members of the local community are more than happy to see this sort of harmless family fun/activity occurring.

Lastly in regards to safety, yes their is a risk of him falling off/hurting himself, but no different from using a bike, skateboard, roller skates, pogo stick [insert hundreds of other kids toys/activities], so as such he WILL be wearing applicable safety gear as he does when out on his bike.

Surveyor is just doing his civic duty. He’s like your local neighbour / curtain twitcher waiting for you to take a step out of line ;)

These are supposed to be quite good. And seeing as made by Segway (or rather Ninebot who bought Segway) I trust them to be decent

I like this one comes with groin support

Pointing out what is being suggested is illegal is having an attitude.

for the £350 price of the segway ninebot(?) , that's a nice contribution, if not, the entirety, of a MTB, but, how fast does a 7 year old outgrow any bike.
segway is 16KG , which could be 1/3rd of his weight - buying adult toys , has, that, control, issue.
