How are the reference GTX680?

A little bagground: I built a new PC with a Nvidia GPU in mind. I bought a Palit reference GTX670 but had coil whine (or similar annoying sound) at idle.

I returned it and got tempted by the new, Never Settle bundle so I bought a MSI TF3 7950. The card was cool but in the end I felt I wanted a nvidia, especially since I never got the game codes.

So now I'm back with no GPU, and since I've got me some ekstra cash (which I dont mind spending, really) and I'm considering a GTX 680.

So how are the reference cards, any experience? If they aren't that good I might aswell go with a ASUS 670 but I want to be absoluteley sure.

Triple slot cant fit in my rig (Bitfenix Prodigy).

As said, the reason I returned my 7950 was because I really want Nvidia this time. :)

A 680 will see you well. A 670 is the better choice and only go for a 680 if you want to do benching. I had an EVGA Reference card which was a very nice clocker.

I should really listen since everbody keeps saying GTX670 but I just have this.. itch. :p But I've yet to recieve the money so my mind/itch can change.

I can't blow THAT kinda money. Really though, the difference between the 670 I'm interrested in is 38 quids tops.

I think you need to look at the sort of cooler that comes with which ever card you go for as you are going to put it quite a small case. For example a ref GTX 670/80 dumps all the heat out the back of the case.

The reference ones are surprisingly quiet. Mine only became loud when I applied an aggressive fan profile and even then it wasn't close to being audible over my headphones so it wasn't a problem.

I can report that my EVGA 680 Signature 2 is very quiet. No coil whine. Though it may not be the optimal performance/cost solution.

I think it's because I've been AMD guy with 5850 and 7850 and now I felt like trying nvidia for a change. 7950 wasn't bad at all, but I kept thinking of if I should have bought a Nvidia all the time. PhysX is something I want to try too.

I don't know if mine was coil whine either. It was just an annoying sound which I couldn't stand.

I'll look at the Evga, thanks!

If you was happy with the HD 7950, you would have probably been best off sticking with that.

ATi systems can run PhysX it's just that the CPU has to do it not the GPU.
