How are the reference GTX680?

EVGA or MSI then.

The MSI ref is on offer as posted above.

I didn't realise his case was so wee, almost too wee

Reference cards are the same as custom cards. Chip lottery kicks in with every one of them. The Lightning is a special card though :)

Honestly if I bought a 680 I don't think I would be too concentrated on OC'ing since I'm a 1080p monitor (I do like to downsample though).

It's just that my PC is right besides me so noise is a big factor. My reference 670 had a annoying whine at idle and I don't wanna risk that again if I buy a 680 reference card. :)

From what I've heard from others, the reference coolers on the 680's are a lot better than on the 670. Hopefully gregster or rusty will confirm.

The blower cooler on the iceQ 7950 is excellent though, far better than the reference cooler.

Wow, thanks a lot. I've always assumed it was otherwise that custom cooled would suit smaller cabinets. :)

No, they keep themselves cool at the expense of blowing hot air on to everything else, they are normally quieter but that's no great achievement when you need extra fans to make their cooling solution work.

A reference High end GPU exhausting the hot air from the case still will add a lot of heat to a small case but considerably less.

I have a shuttle (small cube pc) Media centre with a reference GTX680 with an EVGA tool called precitionX I can limit the cards power to 60% and still play Crysis 2 at 60fps @Ultra settings and with a custom fan curve keep the card in the 60's c, your case looks bigger so you should be laughing ;)

Looks the same fan unit but generally they are quieter, that "whine issue " can still be an unlucky chance (demand a replacement at their expense) they 100% should not be like it....the buggers should test the fans first.

The actual cooler is different and better on the 680 and also used on the Evga 670 FTW which is a 680 card with a 670 chip.

Awesome. I think it's settled now then :p

The Signature (1) version is among the cheapest in Denmark so I'll go after that.

I also have a Signature 1 SC, it's all reference except the additional power phase on the voltage regulator circuit and a different cover and hi-flo backplate, until these latest beta drivers i would not have recommended a 680 to anyone but things are much improved and also as i say I now run the cards at reduced power and the game performance is almost as good and in my game pc crysis 2 runs in the 50's c (although I do modify the cards backplate) about 50-60% fan

They still over throttle on older games though but there are work arounds ;)
