After my 'How good are you at FPS games' list thread - I got into the mood for it.
So (don't worry, last one) - SINGLE PLAYER GAMES - when you choose the difficulty, what do you set it in an expectation of? No right or wrong answer of course ..
1) TBH I set the single player difficulty so I can cruise through the game. I paid for all this content, and time is tight - I'm darn well going to see it, OK blimin' quickly as I lump through the game barely breaking sweat, but what a rush as I see the next new level every 6 minutes, and actually get to see the content I've paid for (hard games, I cant be bothered and give up).
2) I set it so that I may get a couple of kinda' half-challenges, but I expect to beat those challenges pretty quickly to be honest. Facing 'Ultimate iceman big boss' is just boring after attempt number 2 - show me the next level. OK I'll die once or twice - but after that really don't expect to have to lump through the same bit of forest yet again.
3) I actually quite want a significant challenge. I will every now and again be worked real hard to avoid dying, and will die quite a lot anyway. I will slowely work through the game though methodically and when I finally beat 'Ultimate iceman big boss' on attempt number 14 I'll feel especially good about it!
4) When I see even a minor boss I love that feeling of 'I have a BIG challenge ahead of me, how do I handle this then?'. I expect to die very often, then feel awesome as I finally start learning the game like a pro (I blimin' need to to survive!). As for 'ultimate iceman big boss' -- holy mother of god, this is going to take a few hours of planning/practice exactly how to approach this battle before finally downing him. A fun few hours ..
5) Every single corner I turn is a scary (and fun) nightmare. Minor enemies have to be dealt with using maximum concentration as they are darn, darn tough. The most dangerous landscape demands the ultimate player. OK, you may die 3 dozen times just approaching the lair of 'iceman' - but the thrill of not being able to put a single foot wrong .. awesome .. and extra bonus -- you're '5 hour single player campaign' is gonna last you 35 hours!
??
Me - think I'd put myself as a (2).
