Hi all,

1st major GPU upgrade since the MSI Twin Frozr 7950, 1st Nvidia card since the old AMD Barton 3200 cpu days.

Now I am a bit rusty here, but remember old threads and some may have been doom and gloom due to failing to sort out old drivers.

So is there any tips or recomendations regarding the uninstalling of my AMD card and drivers before installing the Nvidia card?

Looks great, sadly I'm getting a 403 forbidden message when I try to download it.

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /ddu/[Guru3D.com]-DDU.zip on this server.

Unplug the AMD GPU, lay it on a desk. Now grab a crucifix and some holy water.
Now shout 10 time's while putting Holy water onto the GPU.
Power of christ compels you :D

Or you can just follow what others said above good luck.

Use DDU.

Pick safe mode from the first drop-down menu, then 'clean and shut down' once you've rebooted. Then just take the old card out, drop the new one in and install the Nvidia drivers (download them before you start to make it a bit easier).

Do not use DDU until you have uninstalled AMD drivers first.

If you use DDU before uninstalling the AMD drivers it can leave you with error messages the next time you install AMD drivers again.

LOLS, I was just gonna say 'torch it'...

I always use DDU without using the manufacturer uninstall option first and I've never had any errors, both going from one company to the other and from one AMD/Nvidia driver to another.

Take out hdd/ssd smash it and burn it. Put new hdd/ssd in install Windows, games etc and Nvidia drivers.

Just kidding DDU is always your best friend.

I have still not done this, can't bear to fit the new GPU without first dusting out my machine, and I have no compressed air, I will get some this week!

I also have a second SSD to fit but need to hunt the cables down.

You should double check with someone like AMDMatt (the Red Baron) then as it can cause you problems that only a windows reinstall will fix.

1. Uninstall the AMD drivers via Add/Remove programs
2. Shutdown, and swap cards
3. Install NVIDIA drivers

Not sure why there is any need for "black magic" or 3rd party utilities these days - DDU is a throwback to when both NVIDIA and AMD drivers weren't as well behaved and didn't always cleanly remove themselves.

These days though Drivers from both parties are so well behaved you can have a graphics card from each party installed with no driver issues.

I know AMD keeps profiles in place when you just normal uninstall because I keep all my settings, only DDU would remove these completely.

I doubt AMD profile settings would effect anything to do with Nvidia though.

I see nobody has asked the critical question, what operating system are you using?

Assuming it is windows, which version?

If using Windows 10 then personally I would follow this advice.

2. Shutdown, and swap cards
3. Install NVIDIA drivers

If you are using Windows 7 then I would follow this advice, with one change, I would take the old card out after the clean and shut down and before the once you've rebooted, unless you like fan cut fingers, possible sparks and a most certain windows crash that will quite possibly lead to a reinstall. :D:p:D
