How can i access my own IP webcam?

Are you sure? I want a static IP - I would be happy to pay a good £5 a month for it, but I just don't think they give them out. What could be a possible reason? You are not supposed to run a server under the T&C's...

Gadge, I already mentioned DynDns. Sing up for an account there and then input the details into your router and this will automatically update your IP with them, allowing you to use a hostname which you will set in their domain.

I haven't got a copy of Sky's Ts & Cs, but there are any number of reasons you might want a static IP. Remote assistance for/from family or friends, ssh and/or telnet access to your box, access to your files from outside the home (uni, work, whatever)... The list goes on.

Whilst Sky say you're not supposed to run servers, in practice I've never had anything said about it from UK Online even when I've mentioned running them. I think they're just covering their backsides in case of someone abusing port 25 for spam, for example. Despite what the Ts & Cs (and some sales reps) tell you, the ports aren't even blocked.

SSH/Telnet = doing work of some kind/running a server. I can see the friends and family assistance though... I might try that. Access to your files etc is also running a server, i.e. file server. I might give it a go tonight... guess it won't hurt. I really just want to run a mail server of my own - though I will not be using port 25, as that will no doubt be monitored.

I've been using port 25 for the last six months, and told them about it too. Them = UKO of course, but they're all Easynet, owned by Sky. The way modern computing has developed, frankly any ISP enforcing a ban on servers is committing professional suicide. Windows Home Server is out, for one thing. Not to mention remote access for working on the go, fixing your PC/rebooting the router for less technical members of the family while you're away from home for the week...

Who honestly hasn't got a legitimate need for ANY kind of server or remote access? I've never dealt with Sky personally, except on behalf of others, but the techies I have spoken to couldn't care less either way so long as you're not spamming people to death etc. Heck, UK Online offer static IPs as STANDARD now - and they're owned by Sky as I said.

If for some reason tier 3 knock you back or seem reluctant, just point out that UK Online (owned by them) are giving out static IPs to home customers free of charge as standard practice. You only want the same courtesy ;) My mate (on Sky Max) told Sky's tier 3 that I (UKO customer) was given 1Mbps upload by asking them to include the overheads on my upload. They gave him the same after he said that, and to date he's still the only customer on Sky itself to have a 1 meg upload. Worth a try ;)

No probs, smids. As a further point of interest, I've just re-read both UK Online's and Sky's terms and conditions, AUP and FUP (six documents in all) and can find NO clause prohibiting the running of servers from their network.

Maybe I just missed something - but I don't think so.

I was sure I read their clause when I signed up to mine. Maybe it is dependent on the package you are on. I am on the LLU-Max package up to 16MB. I do remember reading something vaguely about this. Still, I will certainly give it a go.
