How can i tell if my HDD is running in SATA2 mode?

i have just purchased a Hitachi Sata2 drive and i was told to run a program in dos to 'enable' sata 2.

is there any way of finding out if it is indeed running in Sata 2 mode or not?

The Hitachis come from the factory in SATA1 mode, unless you've run the Drive Feature Tool it'll still be in that mode.

The quickest way to confirm this is to run HDTach, if the burst speed is reported as being below 150Mb/s then the drive is still in SATA1 mode, if it's above that then it's running in SATA2 mode. This, of course, assumes that your mobo supports SATA2.

At the end of the day the only difference between SATA1 & 2 is the increased burst speed which makes virtually no difference to real world performance.
