How can people be so daft at using a microwave grill ...

Never in a million years will potatoes come out the same in the microwave as they do when cooked properly. If they do, you are seriously doing it wrong.

hes not cooking em with microwaves

i find it hard to believe how many people dont 'get' this.

good baked tatty takes time, boil it for 30+ minutes untill it feels soft and the skin is starting to try and fall off, meanwhile heat an oven on 230. cover the tattys in olive oil and whack in the oven for 10-15 minutes, havnt tasted skins like it befor ein my life, make up some extra strong thin garlic sauce, throw on some smoked cured ham cut in thin strips and top with cheese with some leaf dressing on the side, no microwave oven combi can beat that!

I'm going to try this later or within next few days!
Here we always coat them in olive oil with a bit of salt (think it helps them to be crispy) then in oven for quite a while..

Going to try boiling them first for a bit, might get back to you on this :D

please do, i make my garlic sauce with alliolli from morrisons, a little yellow tub of raw garlic mush dip type thing, very strong,, i mix with hellmans mayonnaise and add a drop of milk to thin, you could add chives but i leave as is and its perfect on the jackets, make sure its the first thing on top as that gets the flavour right in.

as a side note, the garlic "dressing" we shall call it for poshness is also great for mashed tatty, add a little instead of milk or cream for a creamy garlic mash, mmmmm.

Can you take pictures of some of these roast spuds from the microwave grill? I am slightly dubious of the crispy skin being the same as some nicely fluffed up and roasted potatoes, although I could very well be wrong! :)

Erm, I have no idea why I wrote roast.. I meant jacket potatoes..:o

You probably could do roast potatoes nicely as well on the oven setting if you stuck them in a tray with oil like you do in a normal oven.

I do 'get' it thanks.

Apparently not. There is little to no difference I the way the outside will cook to using a proper electric oven (gas oven will be different). Essentially what the microwave is doing is boiling the centre of the potato as kafree does, whilst roasting the skin on the outside. The difference is it takes half the time as it does it at the same time.

I'd love to see some of your microwave-cooked potatoes.

Its not a microwave, it's a microwave grill!

It cooks EVERYTHING that an oven can cook, except for a whole chicken / turkey.

It cooks with a grill and a plate that heats up to a skin burning temperature in under 2 minutes, it cooks both the top and bottom of the food evenly without having to flip! Awesome convenience.

I've never tried making whole potatoes though, a sack of frozen chips is all I need, but I suppose I could try it out. The problem is that all the recipes you find for 'Microwave potatoes' are microwave recipes, not microwave grill recipes, so I have no idea how long to leave them in for and dont want to burn anything.

Pre-packed vacuum veg. Not good.

Get some fresh stuff in and cook it properly man! Cheaper, tastier and healthier. ;)

This is a joke right? Veg that has been frozen after picking is fresher than fresh veg. Frozen steam fresh vegetables are a lot fresher and tastier than stuff from the veg isle.

Whats wrong exactly with veg thats been picked, frozen within 24-48 hours, and packed air tight so it cant get any contaminants?

Steaming veg in the microwave is also the healthiest method of cooking vegetables as they cook in their own steam and maintain more nutrients than even stir fried veg does.

Freezing it maintains the freshness?

Sticiking vegetables in the veg isle causes the freshness to degrade.

The microwave grill cooks perfect spuds! I washed it, pricked it, and cooked it for 20 mins turning every 5, then added garlic butter, cheese and pepper, and microwave on 1000w for 1 minute :)

Edam is my favorite cheese, and the little babybels stay nice and soft.

A big block of edam starts to go dry as soon as its opened, and edam slices are already dry as soon as you open the pack.

Oh I forgot about that guy ...

Both him and his mother are out somewhere, and I seriously have no idea why but my mum did his shopping for him and bought a load of £1 microwave burgers, cheese slices and turkey ham and stuck it in our fridge?

I pretty much asked who it was for and she said 'Oh its so and so's shopping thats come back from uni, but he goes back on friday and none of them are in to get his shopping so I did it'.

W.T.F???

Yes, its the same guy, how the hell did they get my mom to do his shopping and try to get me to teach him how to make his own food???
