How can we end political correctness?

Raz said:
Political Correctness in regards to race [and religion] is a Government conspiracy to manipulate people into turning against certain groups of people without them [the Government] having to do anything themselves i.e. they cannot simply kick immigrants out as most people wouldn't allow it, but by making immigrants seem more important than the 'indigenous' people, they can slowly build up hatred/contempt against them thus forcing the people to 'make' the government take action against those groups (so the Government gets what it wants but by legal means and ends up in a stronger position with the people)

:)
Is this the tosh going round your mosque again? The Govt are all out to destroy islam in the UK? Arresting 9 people in birmingham proves they hate muslims right......
Hitler had no problems getting rid of people he did not like without positively discriminating in favour of jews.

Hmm depends. Shop bought mineral water can be harder on your kidneys than tap water due to mineral deposits, then again you avoid the brainwashing flouride in the water this way and the nanobots that reprogram your brain for the lizardman takeover of the earth.... oops wrong thread ;)

Has your doctor come up with any suggestions re the kidney pain?

ok, before I say goodnight...

great, so mineral water or tap? I don't like lizards :(

Have to go for another blood test in a months time. Need to note how many times I go for a pee, etc.

Apparently (this is my understanding of these things not accepted medical fact or something I can reference) but apparently..... tap water is actually better for you than bottled water, which is the opposite of what might be expected.
Mineral deposits in mineral water are not that good for you afaik. Probably best to boil your tap water and store it in the fridge.
My wife makes up the baby bottles with boiled tap water but drinks bottled water .... forgive her Lord, she reads the guardian.

So my advice is ask the doctor if one or the other is better for you, if it was me I would stick to beer as that has a lot of water in it and being alcoholic has a mildly antiseptic effect.

allow me to post jokes with racist undertones in the name of comedy. that would be a start.

Get rid of the compensation culture that's grown in the UK.

At the moment PC-ness is only there to cover the backs of companies and organisations who are scared of being sued by people with "hurt feelings".

I don't think PC is any problem at all to be honest :) Just seems to be blown out of proportion to those it doesn't suit.
Try working in an academic institution. I did, for 5 years. It was strange, sad and scary at the same time, especially if you had committed the sin of being born "white" and male.

Before something can be stopped, you need to have a clear idea of what it is. PC to me just seems a blanket term for anything that some people don't like whether that is someone deciding that they want to call Christmas 'Winterval' or something more serious like positive discrimination. I have even heard of environmentalism being described as PC

There are some ridiculous examples of PC but the intentions behind it are simply to avoid offending people which is good. It has clearly gone too far in many cases but that is no reason to end it completely imho.
I think you have misunderstood the intent of PC. It isn't about avoiding offending people. It's about thought control (think along the lines of Newspeak from 1984), a weapon against disliked groups and personal bullying. The claim that it's about avoiding offending people is a facade to deflect criticism.

"Positive discrimination" is a good example. A very PC term to Newspeak the idea that discrimination against disliked groups is a good thing. Hardly a new idea, sadly, but a brilliant example of using language to control thought.

but the BNP are only where they are because of political correctness...They are hugely involved in it..The BNP play on race and these kind of issues all the time..In order to get rid of political correctness we would need to just stop complaining and gettin offended by racial/sexual/religious issues...and those things are all the BNP are about.

i sadly agree with you

if there was no PC brigade trying to ban us celebrating christmas etc.. the BNP would have nothing to appeal to the public about

and somebody else mentioned they will never get in power because they are too extreme. Again you're probably right. There are a few in the BNP who genuinely want to do something about the PC nanny state we're in. The others are just thugs and racists using it as an outlet, and for that reason they will never reach power.

cant see who else will put a stop to it all tbh...

I don't think that the problem is anywhere near as big as it's made out to be in the media. Any isolated incident is seized upon as an example of 'political correctness gone mad' and used to attack immigration policy, or education, or the health service, or the judicary, or a myriad of other things. I'm not saying that there's nothing to criticise, but that jumping on isolated examples of idiocy and using them as straw men is not the way to do it.

Witness the hype about banning Christmas that we see every year throughout November and December. It's brought up every single year as an example of political correctness gone awry, and it ALWAYS turns out to be massively brown out of proportion, or in some cases utterly false. It sells papers though, so hey, let's keep on printing it.

My favourite example is from last year or so, when a city decided to have a non-traditional bonfire night celebration which, if I remember correctly, had a Chinese dragon or some such. This was quickly jumped upon by the usual suspects and trumpeted as an example of political correctness, despite the fact that it was clearly a one-off event and that the same city had put on traditional (and spectacular) bonfire night celebrations in the past. When it comes to the stage where we're afraid that any deviation from 'Britishness' is insidious political correctness, I think that we have a problem.

I work in an academic institution, and last I checked I'm white and male. What's your point?
