Im just curious to see how close to the red light you get?

Reason being is because people keep saying i rev the car to hard when i know i can rev it much higher before im in the red line or near the limeter(No Rev guage in my car but i know when the limeters kick in due to arsing around one day :p )
My Sister even told me off today for changing from 3rd to 4th at 80kph :p(2nd will reach 80 and hits the limiter just after)
My older brother tells me off but hes seems to have gotten old all of a sudden and wont rev a car past 3000rpm
And mum complains about it aswell but she will be in 4th by 60kph normally :p

So how close to the red line do you get? :)

I change just before it so it stays in VTEC in the next gear. I always let the car warm up by not going over 3k rpm for at least 10 mins first though.

I have no problems taking up to the red line, once warm etc, if i am making progress it will be around 5k rpm (red line is 6.25k) but im driving with economy in mind at moment and im changing around 3k now.

Bit pointless doing this unless you're showing off or something ;) The torque curve on most road cars drops off well before the red line.

Depends on the gear in question. If I'm accelerating normally, I will usually change at 3k or below. This allows me nearly 20 in 1st, 30 in 2nd, nearly 45 in 3rd and 60 in 4th. If I'm attempting to accelerate as fast as possible, it's usually just before limiter in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

True. But often you'll find that while the engine may not be producing peak torque, when the torque that is available near the limiter is multiplied by the gearbox, it offers a more favourable torque-to-wheels than the next gear at a lower rpm.

No redline (as such) or rev limiter on either of mine. If I take it up too far on the Anglia engine it just runs out of puff and sounds like it's about to fly apart because old engines sound odd over 7500rpm :D and on the Pop engine it sounds like a metal bucket full of spanners as everything does actually fall to bits inside the engine :D

drive like a grandad, normally change between 2k and 3k. But i do 30mph in 4th which i think is around 1500rpm. Change it into 3rd uphills though.

40mph is 5th if its flat or 4th if its not.

The torque does but not the bhp which is what you need for max acceleration. So it isn't pointless :)

Anything below 4,000 rpm on my car just isn't fun, although I avoid hitting the limiter as its pretty heavy handed on my car. That and its a Renault so the engine will fall out if I do it too often.

All real men red line there cars it's our God given right, along with crashing them and blaming Anyone but yourself :D
Personally i use the red line to let me know when to change. All cars are restricted anyway and as long as you warm them up properly a good thrashing does them good every now and again.

Usually change about 4500RPM on the Rover, simply because my ears bleed after that :p

But no, IRL it just makes more noise after 5500 so I'm just kind to it at the moment whilst it has no cooling fans!

I must be getting old but I haven't redlined my focus or even really driven it hard since I got it late last year... :o :o

My car has quite a lazy engine and the torque comes in pretty early. If I'm making progress, I usually change gear bang on 6k, which means it drops back in at 4k and keeps on pulling nicely.

Day to day, I normally only use the first 3000rpm in 1st gear and then 2500ish in other gears.

Once or twice I've kept my foot planted until it bounces off the limiter and then change, but I don't do that very often.

In my old 214, that used to get a dose of redline action at least once a day. Pull out of a junction, BAM, to the redline, change gear, redline again. It loved it.

Motoring along I drive as close as possible, it's where the throttle is most responsive and where I have most power.

4500-7500RPM is where it's at, so that's where I stay. During the summer with a clear road anyway.
