How close to the red line do you normally get?

Redline is 7400rpm in the BMW M3, I've had the limiter raised but don't usually take it above 7600rpm.

The Range Rover just makes more noise as it speeds up, doesn't seem to make any more power.

It's an auto, so it doesn't matter too much though.

the clio16v pulls right to the limited (a few get it raised because of this) so im always hitting it :D

at the last RR, my car made peak power 30rpm before the limiter (7000) and this was probably due to the bloke lifting off :p

i don't go above 3-4k unless the engine has got up to temperature though :)

It has too as there's no torque :o

That's a joke by the way ;)

made me chuckle (and nod) :p

back on topic I dont go up there that much, plenty of power and fun to be had just below it without placing undue stress on the old girl

Day to day I drive to within 300 to 500 rpm of the redline. I try not to take it to the limiter too often incase it goes pop.

If its me driving the Mini Cooper its about 6K revs if I'm feeling sporty ;).

Redline is at 6.5K I think.

If its a pupil then depending on them anywhere from 1500 rpm to boiuncing off the rev limiter when I say "just a little gas........." :D

Got board waiting and gave up.

Which board did you get? ;)

You can easily redline a 1.2 SXi, I have on many occasion garages have lent the to me out of the "goodness" of their hearts.

2300RPM Redline for the - low - win! :D

Its not so bad, it pulls like a train, erm, truck @ 1500RPM!

No it's not, it's true :p

But it'll still give your GTI-6 a run for it's money, and will break down less too! ;)

I go 1 - 2 at 2,500 then 2 - 3 at around 2,500,3,000, i don't really go anywhere above 3k if i redlined in every gear id be obliterating the speed limit.

I do the same, tend to change at about 3K when driving normally. Just seems a comfortable time to change without absolutely revving the car to pieces. You have basically the same engine as me I think....I have a 1.6 Focus LX.

i drive my car like its rented :p .

i take my car all the way to 7500rpm.in my old car i used to take it to 8250 both are hondas and tbh are the best engines ever made for that matter cars.

On the Golf rarely past 5k even when booting it on the hills round here, you can feel the power really drop off after that.

In the 911 ('72) rarely above 5.5k even though it needs the revs. I fear the £thousands repairs of over-revving it or the timing chains slipping.

Day to day ...5000rpm-6000rpm always.

Also around town I don't normally change gear just pull away in 2nd. Yes I am lazy

You should be gearchanging (on a track) so that the revs drop to around the peak torque area, as this is where max acceleration happens... on a road, doing this, you are just wasting fuel unless its for an overtake...

Probably making it unpleasant for passengers as well..

For normal driving a change around 4,000 is more than adequate..

:D

I think the redline is at around 7200rpm on the 172, but I rarely get this high. When gunning it I'll generally change around 6500rpm when the gear change light comes on as acceleration starts to drop off around this point.

In general day to day driving however I probably change anywhere between 3000 and 4000rpm, depending on the circumstances at the time.

I've got the warning light set on 6700 and I try to change up before that - but if it's a serious/multiple overtake then sometimes I get into the warning area. Red line is 7200 IIRC, and rev limiter about 7400 - and you really don't want to hit that in the middle of an overtake: power loss is fierce.

But as some people have said, past about 6500 power and torque are dropping off, and the close-ratio box means that after I change up I'll still be at about 4000rpm or better.

Hi there

Redline is 6000rpm. The limiter is 6800rpm.

I generally don't exceed 5500rpm, but have taken her upto 6500rpm but would never go beyond 6500rpm, even though supposedly they are fine to run at 6800rpm, its just not worth it.

The thing has so much torque/power it seems pointless really exceeding 5500rpm. :)
