if supply is maxed, and demand increases then the price will increase. simple as (basic economics)
thats what i said
regardless, the government's taxation is a significant influencing factor, its not all supply fixed.

if there is an excess of gasoline, why have petrol prices not dropped?
In Finland where my GF is from, Diesel is about 25% cheaper than petrol at 95c per litre.
So no, its not petrol stations cashing in, they barely break even as it is.
I have family in both France and Holland, it's the same there, diesel is cheaper than petrol. They always moan about the price when coming to visit.
I thought shell make something silly like 2.2 billion pound profit last year?
Diesel in Australia has just shot up in price too compared to Petrol.
Diesel isnt such a big thing here either (apart from trucks and buses).
Usually only one or perhaps two pumps selling it at each Servo.
In the last 2 weeks, Diesel has gone up 17c/litre (around 8p)
Yeah but can you really put a price on your dignity? You're forced to drive a Peugeot
I said ages ago about this, and how it will continue to rise due the excess of gasoline. What Simon has said is true and the wholesale prices reflect this.

I thought shell make something silly like £12.72bn profit last year? They can't sell that many kit-kats
The situation isn't that great. But I'd still take a diesel for a runabout over a petrol. I only visit my local shell garage once a month and even at it's current high cost a litre of veggie oil is only 80p a litre so still cheaper than those nasty petrol engines
