. Not sure if the CPU will work. Any ideas? Will it be covered by a warrenty.

Turn it over, do any of the contacts or components in the middle of the chip look damaged ?

Other than that its hard to tell really, chips dont necessarily have to show outward signs of damage for them not to work unfortunately.

Is that a dent on the left ? Sorry I didnt see that before

If the IHS is damaged i guess theres a good chance the chips up it, RMA it see what happens :p

:S I hope it is not an OEM chip. Apparently they are not covrered by intel as a warrenty :O

I'm prity sure the OEMs have a 1 year warranty. The retail chips come with the 3 year warranty.

Yeah, intel wont take a non-retail chip back. I know because I tried when I bought a dud on Echo Bravo Aplha Yankee once. They insisted I took it back to the retailer and that was me stuffed! LOL

what has happened to that cpu

looks like youv swung at it with a sledge hammer with sandpaper attached to it and just scraped along it with a un-acurate swing :D

or tied to the back of a lorry and pulled down a road lol

Looks like it been mistaken for a door stop by some non IT savvy person. That big dent on the left looks like a HSF mount horror story.

the question is "what is the chance of it working if i slot it in a motherboard"????
The chip itself might work but with a badly damaged IHS you'll have a rough time cooling it. Perhaps you should just remove the IHS and test it, especially as at this point you haven't much to lose.

Now that I've answered your question you should answer mine: How did it get damaged?
