Can get a virtual keyboard so that your keystrokes are not recorded

and re-install facebook weekly

All the advice as above. Trusted web sites, check credit card statements regularly, dont use public computers to order online as they can have key-loggers and such installed.

Goodluck with your "internet net" shopping :D

Why are people still recommending a PC?

Get an iPad, it's never going to get infected.
All I need now is for HSBC to hire someone/anyone with a clue.

This one should be obvious, but if the frequency of 'Do you think this site is legit?' threads on here is anything to go by, perhaps not.

- If you're ever unsure of a website, Google it.

install a couple things on your computer for a bit of malware protection, malwarebytes or something is usually recommended. I also have Ghostery and ad block plus installed as addons for firefox which prevent a lot of crap being loaded on websites. They are all free and give you a bit of added safety, though in reality there are a lot of protections and mostly common sense in which sites you go to/open is all you need.

Also if you get into online shopping, sign up to Quidco and/or topcashback, before you buy anywhere just check if they are listed on either sites and go through those sites(ghostery can cause some issues with tracking needed for these sites so pause or just don't bother with it), sometimes its almost nothing, sometimes you can get a decent amount of cashback. doesn't cost you anything, or any more to use, the cashback builds up and they pay you back the cash every so often.

I've gotten a significant amount of money back over the last couple years using them, well worth a look to further increase the savings you make.

Get a Visa Debit card & use only that for your online buying, Just transfer what you need into the Visa Debit card & spend it leaving next to nowt in it when done, JD. :)

check the card reguarly to make sure nothing is taken that should not be..

reputable web site + AV software does not mean you dont have a virus and the web site is compromised...

These should be done by anyone who owns a card really, they're not specific to online shopping.

There is next to no risk buying online. If your card gets stolen then just call your bank and they will refund all the incorrect payments and sort the card out.

Just make sure you buy from known shops. Don't make purchases from public computers or while using your computer in a public place, like a laptop in starbucks for example.

My debit card has a verified by visa security password on it and my mastercard cc has a similar password on it, not all websites support it. But it adds to the security.

Any debit card that operates within the VISA scheme also carries cover. Visa says it has strong rules in place to protect cardholders, and you should contact the card issuer.

Some banks even offer more than the required minimum for Visa and Mastercard Debit cards.

With my Visa Debit card, my bank guarantees it for any transactions I make online, regardless of amount.

Wrong.

Whilst there may be some protection it is not as good as CC.

If you use a Visa debit card it offers significantly better protection. Their scheme is called Visa Debit Chargeback and any bank that issues a Visa debit card has to comply with the scheme. You can claim money back if the goods you buy are damaged, or the product or services are not delivered. There is no limit on what you can claim. But you have to claim within 120 days of the date you expected the goods to be delivered or the firm going bust. However, you do get significantly better protection if you use a credit card.

The scheme makes it possible for you to claim a refund if a purchase made using your debit card is unsatisfactory, if you are billed multiple times, if you don't receive goods you've paid for, or if your card is used fraudulently.

You can claim a refund for any amount of money so it can also be invoked if you have problems with a credit card purchase over £30,000 or under £100 in value.

Remember that any protection offered isn’t a legal obligation (like Section75 for credit cards)
