Pretty much this. All communication use to be done via a number of IRC networks, however, they got shut down after the lulsec fiasco and the FBI investigation.

A search on a popular irc search engine seems to point to them not doing a very good job of shutting them down!

Just a quick FYI Anonymous isn't a group you don't simply join you just claim your anonymous and then you're anonymous. But yeah if you can't find their forums you clearly aren't any use to them :L Although saying that I lost the domain to the last one I had.
