How do i move data from a broken mac laptop to a new laptop?

Is it possible? The battery on the mac laptop is broke, as is this screen.

strip the hard drive out stick it in an external usb caddy and transfer the stuff you want across to the new machine.

Forgive me as i'm dumb. So how'd i get the HDD out? I'm doing it for a mate. I've got a SATA to USB cable aswell.

go to ifixit and find the model of mac you're working on it'll show you how to remove the drive.

I have the new laptop turned on and logged in. Where do i go from here?

I've got it plugged in, it's showing on Device Manager but nowhere else.

Yeah Windows can't read MAC hard drives. You need software.
