How do police gain evidence for child porn?

There was some discussion about that in el Reg's comments section after their article on the subject. Pretty much, people were asking what stopped malicious persons from sending the honey pot link out to others under false pretences.

They could even hide it behind a tiny url or similar, so the victim wouldn't know what they were clicking until it was too late, and then the FBI put their door off its hinges. Not to mention of someone was piggy-backing their wifi connection

I'd be thinking that most people wouldn't sign up to a CP site just because they where sent a ink :/

The thing I don't get about this is, when you see news footage of the suspected paedo's driveway with loads of coppers taking away all the computer equipment, why do they take the monitors too?

They take everything vaguely related, they'll take any games consoles too. Even an old NES that can't store anything.

They'll also take random electrical equipment if it looks like anything non-standard, so if you have something like an engine timing board on your desk for instance, they would take that too. Just in case.

LOL! Sorry, I should have posted more in context considering what we were discussing earlier in the thread (entrapment/signing up etc). The article at the Reg was talking about a particular honey pot which simply required VISITING before your door came down, not signing up to or downloading from or anything. I should have made that clearer :)

then i doubt any judge in the land would grant a search and arrest warrant for a few second load of a web page, you'd probbably only get your door kicked in (an not offered an out of court settlement for wrongful arrest) and arrested if you stayed on it for some time, and looked through it/visited more than once, and even then they would most likely need to find CP from other sources on your pc before hey could get a conviction.

Just type your posts out in Word/Ooo if you're serious mate, with real-time spell and grammar checking. Then just copy+paste when you're done :D BTW for the record, yes I do realise you just missed the 'e' by typo lol

In that case, I apologise. It's all very well taking the pee on GD, but I have mates with dyslexia and who really struggle with writing. Winding someone up because their English isn't the best isn't exactly clever itself, so my apologies mate.

np my writing skills are legendarily bad, my A level Bio teacher said my coursework looked like I had dipped a spider in ink and let it run over the page :p

You should have told him it was your mistake, and that you'd given him your art homework instead :D That said, in my old grammar/high school I'd have been given the drop for that LOL
