How do you check a SSD for errors?

Long story short, I *think* I got a failing SSD taking my Opensolaris storage server down. Its running as a Raid1 system slice but has "disapeared" from the OS twice now - once on friday and once 30min ago. I have offlined it from the storage pool but I am at a loss how to test it?

I can pull it out and it obviously has a SATA interface so can plug it in and test it... but test it how?

Its a OCZ Agility SLC - these things are supposed to be Enterprise grade and reliable damn it!

have you ruled out a dodgy cable or interface card/port?

I can't at the moment as I can't test the drive. I am not sure how you would rule it out. It is a production system which is a mission to schedule down time, because it is production I can't swap the cables and try to force it to error either...

They still have SMART built in don't they?

Most motherboards will notify any failing SMART drives on-screen before Windows loads.
