How do you decide what console to buy?

PS5 for exclusives, switch for couch co-op (and nintendo exclusives of course ;)), only use my series X for backward compatibility :p

Just to throw out a counter point to everyone saying no point in Xbox if you have a decent PC.......what if you don't want to sit at a desk to game or don't want to stream your PC to the front room? There's still a completely valid reason to have an Xbox even if you have a gaming PC as far as I can see. Also, partially related but does anyone know for sure that all Xbox games will go to PC too without the need for Cloud streaming?
This is me. I've been a PC gamer for years but picked up a Switch at launch and for a long time that's all I needed. Picked up a PS4 Pro ( having previously owned a PS1 at launch but skipped the next 2 generations ) because I couldn't resist the library of top notch games it had amassed, then jumped on a PS5 at launch. Increasingly I was finding I was gaming more in the comfort of my living room using the consoles rather than my PC. Because of that I decided to purchase a Series X, and I've had a lot of use out of it, probably more than my PS5 if I'm being honest. A lot of the games utilise crossplay so I can choose to sit at my desk and play on the PC without losing progress if i want eg. Diablo 4. Given how expensive components are becoming I'm seriously considering not upgrading my PC any further and might just stay on the Xbox platform for MS studio titles. It's not that I can't afford it, but I refuse to pay NVIDIA, ASUS et al for the extortionate prices they are demanding for hardware that is barely more performant than the previous generation. Console platforms, on the other hand, offer a much better value proposition.

For me the XSX was easier to get hold of (at the time), exclusives I was more interested in, slightly more powerful, game pass is better.

It's a lot of money to spend just to be able to play the same games that are available on a different system. Not to say that isn't valid, it just isn't a particularly compelling reason for a lot of people to get one when the alternative is a PS5 with a library of exclusives games and other unique features.

We only know what MS have said and that's that the PC will get all first-party releases. I can't see why the more powerful platform would need cloud streaming though.

Depends what your friends play on. If you're a social game then just get the same as them so you're not cross play alienated if the games you play would have that. That's how I would decide.

I had a PS5 but sold it for a XSX once Flight Simulator came out, if that wasn't on the Xbox then I'd have stayed with the PS5 no doubt.

Exclusives were the main factor and my existing library being on PlayStation meant I decided to stay with PS5 and the Nintendo Switch.

It takes 4 games or so for me invested in a system usually. But also console cost and game cost. However I went against that this generation.

PS5 I got for Demons souls and Gran Turismo , then sold up when Gran Turismo 7 got it's huge delay as it sat for about 6 months doing nothing.
So got GT7 on PS4 when it launched.

Never understood the I've only been one brand so stick with it. A friend loves racing games, plays only Fifa and racing games. But doesn't play online, so for near whole PS4 gen, just played Fifa as GT was online, Never played any Forza as it's on Xbox, would love to play but no as it's on Xbox. Just play the games you want.

If Bloodborne 2 came out tomorrow I'd buy another PS5.

Currently still happy with my PS4, PC, and one X. The switch I'll probably sell I've been disappointed by it's exclusives, also find the switch tax eye watering for any older games I'd be remotely interested in.

Generally speaking I would say buy the console most of your friends play on just for convenience.

For me the fact that only Sony offer VR support was big draw as well. Though I’ve always favoured Sony systems over Microsoft having had PlayStations since I was a teenager!

Having said that I currently have all the main console platforms but if I could only have one it would be PlayStation.

Most exclusives, xbox and ps come to pc eventually. I have my pc plugged into our main tv in the living room and play all my games on it, mouse and keyboard and xbox controllers. I also have a ps5 which I've barely used. All the ps games I've played are now on pc anyway but with better graphics and framerates.

I chose the Playstation since I've had nearly all their consoles.

I did try one of the XBox's a few generations back, but I don't find the interface that intuitive. Maybe it's because I'm used to the Playstation.

I think the XBox is the PC of the consoles. It takes itself more seriously.

I'm sure it wouldn't take long to get used to the interface, and you're used to the controller etc.

Yeah, I was like that initially when I got the Series X. I was used to the Playstation UI and it did take me a bit of time to become accustomed to the Xbox way of life. Now though, I think I prefer it and it sees more use than my PS5.
