How do you do your shopping?

Do you plan ahead for a week on what meals you will have on each night?

Or do you just buy randomly whatever takes your fancy?

Genuinely interested because the woman just buys random stuff which most of ends up getting thrown away.

I go to the local shop (Co-Op) every day and usually plan my meal around whatever's reduced. I usually pick up a stinking bargain every day. The best so far was last week which was a whole duck reduced from £10.50 down to £3. Had crispy duck pancakes for under a fiver :D. There's regularly whole chickens for £1.99 which I butcher and freeze.

Plus if I ever bulk shop half usually ends up in the bin because it goes off either before I can use it or because I don't fancy it.

I might decide I want something specific and then buy the stuff for that when I go shopping, otherwise its walk round and pick up stuff I fancy and if I get too much stuff, some of it ends up in the freezer.

I just go nuts in the supermarket. I'm normally hungry too so end up spending too much..!

Usually go to meat first and see whats on offer, grab enough stuff for the week and then think of what I can do with it whilst im heading back to vegetables:D

Plan what I'm having each day and make a shopping list based on that. Usually go at least twice a week so it's as fresh as possible. Veg, fruit, bread and dairy usually from the farm shop and the rest from Waitrose.

On the day.
If I plan and buy for a week, I end up buying on the day as well, as in ever end up wanting what I've purchased.

Weekly veg box, which can guide some meals. Other than that I'll see what the butchers / fishmonger has and sometimes go from there.

Other times we'll go through some cook books and see if there is anything we fancy trying.

I couldn't stand making a week plan, nothing would bore me more.

Altho Sunday's are always reserved for roasts :)

We decide what we're having for the week, then buy food that corresponds. Usually leave one night free, so that we don't feel like we *must* have what we'd planned or stuff will go off. So that if someone invites us round for dinner or we decide to get a takeaway then it doesn't matter.

There's stuff we buy every week of course, milk, bread, fruit juice etc.

I find if I go without a list we spend loads more and don't end up with things that go together to make an actual meal.

buy for a week.

tho my teas tend to be meat and veg and my dinners a soup as im on the road when i have it.

so i go to costco and buy 2 packs of meat and get a bag of each peas, sweetcorn and carrots for veg.

dinners i have a soup in a flask with a snack of some kind. is the most proper meal i can get in my truck.

It's a lot easier/cheaper for me to buy a load of meat to freeze/freezer stuff which I get Tesco delivery as there's no big supermarket near. Then depending on what I have left in the freezer or what I feel like having if not in the freezer, I plan and go shopping before/on the day to get whatever I need.

Tesco, buy enough fresh meat for the week, and enough frozen for the one after. Cook in bulk so each meal lasts 2-3 servings. Veg is bought part in tesco, part at the local grocers. Will buy food from the butchers if I plan to cook something a bit more fancy

Up until this week I tend to just buy for one or two days at a time, which definitely ends up costing me more than it should.

This week I went to Tesco on Monday and bought enough food to do me for all my main meals, breakfast and extras like fruit and yoghurt. I'll still get milk throughout the week and I buy soup or a sandwich for lunch every day. I'm interested to see how much cheaper it works out, I fancy I'll end up saving about £10-£15 a week, maybe even more as not going into the shop every day or two will cut out impulse purchases

I'm not planning meals but buying a good mix of food that I can use as I want, when I want.

We do a months shop online at tesco, being veggie we are limited for choice so I average a guess at how many times each week well eat quorn mince or sausages etc and order accordingly.
I usually pop to co op or tesco 2-3 a week for fresh veg etc as and when required, but no planning on what we will eat each day. It would drive me mad if I had planned out every meal for a week!

Hmm, some very interesting replies in here so far.

My Mum has given me the task of doing the weeks shopping to see if I can save money and throw less food away at the end of it, whilst getting in a proper meal each night.

I live so close to the shops that I do it on the day. I always make the most of specials and reduced items so I'm spending as little as possible.
I usually plan a little what I have for breakfast but tea is always a bit of a gamble to what I have in the cupboard
