How do you find playing on a large screen?

I usually play on my 360 connected to a 26" LCD TV on my desk, sitting probably 2 feet away from me. Last night I hooked up the same 360 to a 42" plasma to compare the difference.

I played COD4 and Mass Effect, noting that the increase in size made the games feel more epic and I was able to pick up on finer detail. I also played Mirror's Edge for about 5 minutes before I felt like throwing up :o. The downside though was sitting 6 feet away I found I couldn't aim as well. I was playing COD4 on the easiest setting just to bash through some levels but I thought if I played anything harder, spray and pray wouldn't cut it!

If you have a big TV, do you find this to be a problem or do you get used to it?

A couple of other small things: Geometry Wars 2 on a big screen is awesome, and PGR3 has not aged well!

You get used to it....

I went from a 26inch regular TV to a 42inch 1080p LCD, and went I first got it I was blown away. Now though, I just don't notice it at all.

I prefer playing FPS games on my 20" tv instead of my 42" tv. Sports, fighting, third person and racing games I can only play on my big screen though.

The bigger the better, especially for FPS games as that 1 pixel in the far distance is a lot easier to target.

I went from a 34" CRT HDTV to a 50" Plasma HDTV and the increase in screen size certainly goes a long way in making gaming more enjoyable / immersive.

I haven't had any trouble with aiming on the larger screen, hopefully you're not experiencing input lag which would be related to the TV itself.

My monitor is higher resolution and the view distance is always better with pc games. Never had trouble taking out enemies from a far.

Also, pc games = sitting really close to the screen.

Ive got a 32" and a 20" i find aiming on an FPS is so much easier on a 20" but enjoy less hardcore games on the 32" :)

I think you wouldnt notice the difference the more you played on the bigger screen.

I think perhaps while the screen is a lot larger sitting further away means that the bunch of pixels that makes up someone's head is smaller in my vision on the big screen, hence harder to hit. Solution: massive screen .

really the only improvement on a big screen I find is that I sit back further, like playing from a sofa, I kinda prefer to be sitting farther away when playing console games, and prefer playing on a TV LCD, as the low res annoys me if sitting 2 feet up away from a PC monitor.

*is too used to PC gaming at 1080p*

ive always used my 360 on my PJ. you do get used to a large screen, and playing things like Mass Effect etc certainly adds a bit of epicness to the game I think :)

At times I do find it a bit easier to spot things on screen, especially in some FPS games, i.e. spotting a slightly hiding enemy on COD4 for example. Obviously a lot of this depends on screen size + distance away from the screen

Games like Guitar Hero are a MUST on a large screen though, especially if your playing multiplayer. It just makes it easier for everyone then

Well since we're on the console forum I'm talking about fixed resolution console games.

I sit around 10 feet away from my 102" projector, It does have its draw backs as you have to physically move your head sometimes.

Same here.

For racing games, I like playing GT5p and Grid on it, it's fantastic.

For FPS games though, I actually do worse sometimes, as I can't always tell when I'm getting hit, as if the screen flashes or whatever, on the opposite side of the screen to where I'm looking, then I miss it. It also means I can't see the HUD without physically moving my head left and right, which can be the difference between life and death! IE, you're about to move in for the kill, look across to check your ammo/health, and while you've done that, the enemy has popped up and shot you.

But it can make even more mediocre games seem great.
I played Halo through on my projector, and thought it was great fun.
I played KZ2 on my 40" Bravia (which kinda feels like a portable TV now) but may go back and play it through on the projector now too.

But yes, there is a limit to screen size. If you can see the whole screen in your field of view, it's easier for fast paced shooters, than if you have to move your head around. The hardest part for me, is as I said, I often find "oh damn, I didn't realise I was being hit"

For racing games and stuff though, it's fantastic.
Actually, that reminds me, I've not tried Flower on the projector yet, I may give that a go later.

You get used to it....

This.

I used to play fifa on my Dell 2408 and decided to have a few games on my 52'' Sony and found it really strange but after a few games i was fine. Also when i went back to my 2408 it took a few games to get use to it again.

I use a 42 inch 1080p screen for pc gaming about half a meter away from the screen, no problems at all! :)

I prefer to game on my 2405 over anything larger. I prefer to sit a couple of feet from that on all my games. The only one I prefer a larger screen for is PGR.

Even rockband I play from 8 or more feet from I prefer the smaller screen. Apart from drumming I play 2 or 3 feet away from the screen.

thats the whole point, if you have a huge screen(40"+) you need to sit atleast 8+ feet away from it but if your like me and game on your pc monitor and sit at the desk then 22" is more than enough, its all about where you are going to be viewing it from, you dont want the screen on which your gaming to take up any more than 50% of your view or else youll have to move your head to see the extremes of the picture.
