How do you get time off work for interviews?

How does that follow? Using sick leave to the max will usually result in a disciplinary of some kind.

Well you said break the rules to ensure you retain all your holiday.

doctors notes and the like will protect you for a decent period with little consequence.

I'm kind of lucky at the mo, I just tell them i'm having an interview and take the afternoon or morning off at short notice

In my old job I had to book holidays weeks in advance so I actually walked from that job and got a job with time off in the week instead of weekends. That was before the recession though, when it was easy to find a job

For people saying tell your employers you have an interview, what line of work are you in?

I couldn't even think about it in my environment, I'd be shunned completely I imagine if I ended up staying. I could understand it if you worked in a petrol garage or a Tesco store.

My employers know I want to leave, I made it clear to them but at the same time they dont care because they need to save money and the role I am in is overstaffed, different situations make it easier to be able to get it out in the open, I imagine you work in a role where this would be frowned upon and there maybe competition for your job

With great difficulty!

I once took a short-notice holiday (leave) for the 1st stage interview, then had to pull a sick day for the 2nd stage.

To be honest if you're going to apply for other jobs you need to be creative. Working hours in lieu is preferred but it's still a nightmare and risky if you get caught. I hated taking that sick day too

every time ive needed a day off for an interview ive told my employer that it was so i could go to an interview and id get a day off / half day without any problems.
just be honest about it, no need to lie, they can't dismiss you because you're looking for somewhere else

But they can easily refuse your request and ask you to give them 2 weeks notice.
