There's a storm brewing in the Metro forums. Many so called "fans" are upset towards Ranger Hardcore being made available as Pre-Order only.

Now to show their disapproval they've said they will pirate the game because

If you pirate the game, and they notice it, it's like saying "The game is fine, but there is something about the marketing/whatever it is that i don't like"

I've told the Jar Heads

So much for being fans of the franchise!! You lot are being hypocritical by suggesting that you'd pirate the game just to get one over on THQ. Whether you do something illegal is your business, but remember every pirated copy results in less money for the publishers and furthermore less chance of a sequel (Metro 2034) being produced.

There's a phrase we use in the gaming industry to show disapproval of practices and it's called "Vote with your wallet." By not purchasing a game you don't add to global sales and then publishers take notice.

So how in this day and age do you show disapproval towards publishers or developers?

Would you pirate? Would you vote with your wallet? Would you start a Blackout similar to what was done with BF3? How do you get publishers to take notice?

What is Ranger Hardcore? Is it an integral part of the game or more like a cosmetic thing. Either way they are idiots. Especially since THQ is/was(?) in a dire state financially last time I heard.

I don't buy their next game and I don't pirate it either... take treyarch/blackops 1 for example - after the launch debacle where they basically threw the game out with some serious issues and then went afk for 19 days without even acknowledging the problems let alone fixing them and then took months to actually do anything productive about it I simply won't buy another game by them ever (and I haven't bought blackops 2).

Pretty sure it just gives you two extra guns and two extra difficulties, ranger easy and ranger hardcore

Ranger Mode provides the definitive Metro experience,” said Huw Beynon, creative strategist, THQ. "It’s deservedly regarded as one of the most immersive, atmospheric challenges in gaming and we think fans will be very happy to see its return in the Metro: Last Light Limited Edition."

Basically it's playing the game without a HUD aka Purist mode. It was in Metro 2033 as a free download.

It's the hardest game mode that makes it more of a survival game over the other game modes, it's definitely the way it's meant to be played imo but it's not game breaking or anything by not having it, you can survive with hard mode.

Kind of a weird thing to pre-order, but I guess they figure that so many people want it that they will get a lot of orders, however it's not going down as they wished.

It's just more evidence that THQ need some more cash flowing sooner rather than later to continue surviving.

Back on-topic, if I dislike a franchise I just don't buy it.

I've emailed a couple of publishers regarding DRM issues, most recently EA, Ubisoft and Codemasters. Only EA responded with something helpful funnily enough. Ubisoft and CM can go **** themselves

Pirating something that you object to buying just tells publishers that you're a filthy thief, and their fan base can't be trusted. Most don't understand why charging the earth for content that should really be part of the game, allowing pay to win, preorder early access (used to be called beta testing and was free) is unpopular.

Don't like it, don't have it. It's called self control :p

But if you pirate it instead that's not exactly showing your disapproval as your still playing the game (Maybe even secretly enjoying it if you complete campaign or are playing it 24/7).

At the old EAUK forums, many of us were concerned with the direction BF3 was heading and there was an outcry on forums. DICE then invited a selected few to visit their studios in Sweden.

A few people went, but then as you know the game still wasn't the successor to BF2 and the community was divided.

If a game has changed direction and has started to appeal to a new audience like COD has (kids who love to quickscope) then how do we get Activision to bring a game back to it's roots (gun battles without silly over the top perks)? Or should we just accept the game's evolved?

If Mass Effect 3 is anything to go by, I obsess about it for months and just tell everyone I know to avoid.

I still need to complete the mass effect trilogy, and I've heard nothing but bad things about 3 so I've avoided it for ages.

Word of mouth and not buying the game is the best way.

I wouldn't discount a entire publishers library of games, I mean I wouldn't buy games from excalibur publishing who make woodcutter simulator and stuff, but if they happened to be publishing arma 3 I'd buy from them.
