How do you turn off this dynamic brightness on 8800GTS?

I've just received an EVGA 8800GTS 640Mb this morning and set it up about 10 minutes ago. All seems well but what's this dynamic brightness thing? If it's a dark background then it lightens up, if it's light, it darkens. It's driving me mad. My X1900XT didn't do this.

Ok so now I've updated to 162.22 which is beta Vista 32bit but it's still doing it and the control panel doesn't seem to have to facility to switch it off. This is desktop not games by the way. Am I still missing something here?
 
I do not like the new CP, I use the Classic CP, you can slide down the slider for it, so I know we are on same topic, does it look like your screen is fluorescent / radioactive ?, if so thats Digital vibrance and it should be off on your desktop, its a driver problem unless card is borked.
 
Check your monitor does not have this option as i am not aware of such a feature on Nvidia cards, with the exception of digital vibrance which is off by default and does not have the effect you describe.!

digital vibrance only alters colour gamma - its the equivilent to taking a picture and upping the contrast and saturation in photoshop. it doesnt make dark scenes brighter. it'll be something on your monitor as there is no such setting on the card :)
 
Hense I asked if we were on same topic and about the "fluorescent / radioactive" look.

If he can get to that setting in the new CP he will soon see if its on or off.
 
also note that digital vibrance isnt meant just for gaming, it s a desktop feature and as such affects everythign on the display:)

Must be a Vista thing, because in XP it is off by default when you go back to desktop, Ive had a game close and leave it on though., I used to mess with it but it does look weird on desktop use.

im not saying its set on by default, im telling you what digital vibrance is designed to do. all i can tell you is that implimentation of it in vista is still buggy. i dont know of any problems with it in xp with whql drivers
 
I've had a good fiddle with settings, both for Vista and NVidia and there's no stopping it. I've played with monitor settings and it's not so bad now, perhaps I'll get used to it.

As for a borked card, non. The performance is stonking compared to my old X1900XT. I've just upped settings in Test Drive Unlimited and Oblivion and it's a huge leap forward.
 
I dont have any wierd effect on Vista or XP, on CRT or LCD, so if your happy fine, but hope its not a glitch in cards or driver, it would not affect speed anyhow.

I can only guess what your seeing, I assumes it may be DV, google it anyhow, probably a driver issue or buggy Vista :p .
