How do you type?

i've just had to type this sentence just to see how i do type, taking a conscious effort to pay attention to which fingers i use.

Turns out i use my index and middle finger for typing on each hand, and then for random buttons, e.g backspace, enter, punctuation i'll use my ring finger of my left hand.

I touch type properly whilst looking at the screen. I think there are a few things I do that are "wrong", but largely I'm by the book with all fingers being used.

I strongly recommend this and to practice with it. If you type in your job, being able to properly touch type is a valuable skill:

Also, you can get keyboards with a split spacebar one half of which can be configured to be a delete button. Made a huge difference to my average typing speed and I'd love to find such a keyboard again.

I use my first 3 fingers for typing, thumb(s) for space, and little finger on my left hand for ctrl/shift etc. probably use my index fingers for more letters than I should though.

Really fast but also really inaccurate so end up spending more time fixing what i've wrote than it would take to type properly in the first place.

Touch typist here, around 55 wpm. Was taught it back in primary school because my handwriting was a lost cause lol

I would have thought a proper touch typist would be faster than that.

I can touch type but I don't use the "proper" technique but I still manage to hit about 50 - 55 wpm.

I taught myself how to type by playing EverQuest when I was a teenager. Having to play a game and type messages to other people in real time soon made you stop looking at the keyboard and concentrate on the game because if you looked at the keyboard you'd end up dying pretty fast :).

I learned to touch type around the age of 30. It was extremely difficult, trying to get past years of ingrained idiosyncratic typing! I recommend you do it though, proper touch typing is a great skill.

Touch type using all fingers. I use my own method rather than the proper touch type system though with the home keys. I can type around 130 words per minute or something - it works for me :p.

Learned how to properly touch type a few years back after just using my index & middle finger on both hands since I first touched a pc. Took me a long time to properly learn it and to get out of the bad habits I had but I'm glad I did now.

My left hand touch types and my right is hunt and peck. One of my colleagues spotted it before I noticed, but that's probably because of gaming. My left hand knows all the keys, my right is useless unless on a mouse

I type like I used to in CS.

Shift,WAD,Space with my left Hand, right hand moves around a lot.. my right pinkie does nothing.

Bought myself a daskeyboard ultimate (blank keys), which is fine 99% of the time, unless I'm playing Rocket League on the 360 pad, and quickly want to type, I often jump too far to the right :D

This is exactly how I have my hand "at rest" on the keyboard" - though sometimes my thumb sits on alt.

I guess mine was from Quake 3, because I didn't play CS and Quake 3 was way better :p.
