How does Climate Control affect MPG?

Yes and thanks, I guess. Thanks for being a douche about it too (as usual I bet you're laughing with asses off in IRC about it).

I have never seen ECO mode before so was commenting from what people were saying above.

Edit*
Jez, explained it more sensibly ¬_¬

Very surprised that it makes anything like as much difference as that, what does 0.5mpg represent in terms of total %'age on a tractor like that? Must be a fair bit? :)

I agree with you there mate, I'll ask the Scania Workshop chaps (which is on-site at my depot) for the definitive answer.... (Will probably be told "**** knows mate!" ) :D

If it really is 0.5MPG, i'd hope that its damn good climate for that kind of load! I am surprised that the owners of your fleet dont rip off and board over the AC button tbh :p

CC doesnt do a lot, it just allows you to set the temperature in the car which it then automatically regulates instead of you turning red/blue dials all the time depending on how hot/cold it is outside. If it had a digital screen showing the temp rather than a series of turney dials then it had CC.

Ah ok. It only had on or off for the air con button (snow flake) which was always on.

Sorry I meant it didn't have Eco mode button or anything like that for on/off, as Fox said above I think it just is the on/off button :p

Some cars like the E60 haven't got a digital screen to display the temperature but do have climate control ;)

I thought the main factor was whether the compressor was belt driven or the more eco electric compressor version, in the same way that cooling fans were originally belt driven the electric radiator fan improved engine efficiency considerably

Not on a 12v system it wouldn't be!

Some cars have an eco button instead - the function is the same, it just TURNS OFF THE AIR CONDITIONING! Thats all it does.

Econ leaves the AC on mine :p Just lets the engine stop when the car does.

iDrive doesn't control the climate control on those models?

On E60's with the small engines and only the standard climate:

It's a temperature dial which sets the temperature the climate control is to maintain when the "Auto" button is pressed, there is no screen on the Climate Control system. It is only single zone. There is another dial where you can change the vents used (i.e. windscreen etc) manually. This overrides "Auto". There is a ********* button - light on is Air-conditioner enabled and light off is Air-conditioner disabled. There is also a "Off" button.
The iDrive only has control of the centre vents, and you chose whether the centre vents are to have the Warmer air, the Cooler air or the Medium air (overall the climate control system will still be achieving the temperature you dialled, the iDrive is just controlling which range of temperature the air hitting your face will be).
