How does Climate Control affect MPG?

On E60's with the small engines and only the standard climate:

It's a temperature dial which sets the temperature the climate control is to maintain when the "Auto" button is pressed, there is no screen on the Climate Control system. It is only single zone. There is another dial where you can change the vents used (i.e. windscreen etc) manually. This overrides "Auto". There is a ********* button - light on is Air-conditioner enabled and light off is Air-conditioner disabled. There is also a "Off" button.

Yea I know, I was pointing out to Jez that the screen in the E60 has nothing to do with the standard climate. I don't need a lesson in how it works :p

All the iDrive does is replace the knurled wheel on the E39/E46 which controls the centre vent.

If it really is 0.5MPG, i'd hope that its damn good climate for that kind of load! I am surprised that the owners of your fleet dont rip off and board over the AC button tbh :p

Well, the general consensus with the spanner monkeys at work is more like 0.1 MPG if anything at all.

Apparently, earlier Scanias had a different A/C compressor that did affect MPG by a relatively large margin, not so the current "R Series" :)

i was driving in today, ac comes on to demist the screen as soon as you get into the car, but i cant resist the urge to turn it off because i know its wasting resources :P

i cannot detect it making the car any slower though

On a 1.25 74bhp Fiesta I lose a noticeable amount of power, and also around 4-5mpg around town, about 3 on the motorway. Sucks. The system is probably empty now due to my lack of use.
