How does everybody backup their data?

All pictures on an external hard drive
All pictures plus important documents on an old laptop hard drive.

I don't back-up nearly regularly enough though. I lost some fantastic pictures of Syria, especially Damascus, from the late 2000s when an old drive failed (and not backed-up). Those images aren't going to be replicable now, that's for sure.

On my network I've got a small HP Microserver with 12TB of storage (basically functioning as a NAS), most of it is backed up using a LTO5 tape drive that I aquired

The data is also replicated to another microserver sitting at my parents house using RSYNC over an SSH tunnel (both houses connected using 80/20 FTTC)

I need to set up a backup system :( I have a 2TB drive in a networked system which is empty and I can use.

Best way to do this? :P OS on my PC is Win 7 Pro, OS on the other system is Vista Business.

Very nice!!

Interesting to see how everyone's backup approaches differ.

My arrangement is:
1. Client PCs automatically backup OS and key folders to WHS2011
2. Master copy of photos & music on my desktop PC are periodically copied to the WHS box using syncback
3. WHS2011 is backed up to multiple sets of external HDDs using syncback, with extra copies for critical data and kept physically separate

The advantage of using syncback over an automated robocopy is that it allows me to review the changes before they are written to a backup. So if half my photos were unknowlingly deleted or corrupted then I should spot the damage before it gets propagated to the backups. The downside is that it's a manual process, and it only works because there are limited number of changes to review at each backup.

Crashplan looks interesting though. I shall investigate :)

Laptop, laptop 2,htpc, desktop all back up to home server
Home server clones it's main 3tb drive to another 3tb external drive
If home server fails i would need to loose all 3 at same time for fatal failure

Very important things like photos are on Dropbox
