I mean Is it still a fun game that you could replay fully right now?

Or has it aged too much.

Also how does ffx compare to ff7? I am unsure whether to replay 7 or play x for the 1st time. X is more linear?

The graphics aren't the best (during the battle scenes they are great though) but gameplay wise it's still one of the best games ever and is great fun to play with all the side stuff to do.

Imo its still one of the best games to play :) I play through it like once a year thats how much I love it. Great story, ok the graphics are not outstanding but if you can see past that gameplay wise its still one of the best.

It doesn't look as pixelated on the psp which is pretty nice. But if you play it on a huge TV the graphics will deffo look worse.

I'm playing it through on the PSP right now. Got KOTR, raided Midgar, collected most ultimate weapons, all that's left is the Weapons, Sunken Gelnika and the Northern Crater to finish up - amazing game.

But then, I've no issue with graphics unless they interfere with gameplay.

Play 7 first, going by what everyone says the story is superior to X, but play X afterwards, FFX imo is a fantastic game

I tried to play X once and hated it, I got up to getting Wakka and was just annoyed by the whole game.

However, I tried it again and I cursed myself for being such an idiot. The game was really good! It was just under 7 in terms of awesomeness!!

i never had that, FFX was the first final fantasy game i played, and urgh god, first week 24/7 didnt even sleep, story was awesome and the characters just seemed like you'd known them forever, that was 6 years ago now, still play it lots :D

It's still massively over-rated. 10 is better, and 9 is my favorite.

to be fair even if there are better games it isn't really massively over rated, it still is one of the best games ever made. Plus it came before 9 and 10 so you would hope they refined the formula (not that recently we've seen much of that).

9 had terrible characters

FF8 is best, not only because it has real sized people (as opposed to tiny cartoon stumpy armed gimps, or strange characters with tails) or because it lacks whiny American voice acting, but because I say so.

:edit: 10 had no world map and save points refilled all your bars, which was stupid. Goodbye risky levelling, hello hours running around a save point waiting for random encounters. Or was that just me :p?

I still play through ff7 every year or so, I love the game and have done absolutely everything there is to do in it, I preferred 8 to 9 though, and I know I am in the minority here but I just loved how open the world became once you got ragnarok and the amount of crazy stuff there was to do, I think there was even more than 7,

9 had the crazy chocobo treasure hunting thing and the weird insanely hard spinning globe thing but I just never took to it like the others,

10 was awesome as well with the dark aeons and penance and the monster arena and the legendary weapons,

talking about them like this shows how crappy 12 and 13 really are :(

Give XII another go. I've been under the impression since its release that it's an awful game but I started playing it again the other day.

It's very strange, because XII is so different to the other games. You need to accept that it's really a single player game built on an MMO engine. When you come to accept this, the game becomes more enjoyable. It's also quite easy once you realise how to exploit the game mechanics (much as is the case in VIII). There's a few things you can do early on to give your characters pretty insane loot early in the game.

I think XIII looks even worse when you compare it to XII. XII at least has enormous towns populated with interesting NPCs. XIII really is a stinker.

"One of the best games ever made" is what makes it over-rated. So many people say this and it's based purely on the fact that it was the first FF game they played, or even one of the first video games they played, with a lot of those who over-rate it being of similar generations.

With regards to refining the formula, I don't think there's much of that, with each game being quite distinctively different. FF 9 and 10 are very very different games, they simply share the same developer and series name.

Overrated? Kidding right? 9 had terrible characters and 10... didn't that have really obnoxious voice acting?

That's all subjective though, isn't it? Disliking the characters of 9 and the voice acting of 10 doesn't really indicate much to anything other than it being your opinion on it. FF 7 has terrible graphics, they were particularly bad even by PS1 standards as well, especially considering the pre-rendered backgrounds, yet that didn't stop you liking the game did it?
