How Far Do You Commute?

35 miles each way here.

Tbh I wouldn't want to work any closer, I find the morning and evening drive clears my mind :)

Yeh, I enjoy a good drive to and from work, its good for that.

25 miles each way - car to station, train to London, tube to office.

£600 pa car parking, £2200 pa rail/tube ticket.

1h 15 min. Have done the same route for 16 years.

Rough stab and say about 40 miles or so. Walk/drive to station, 50min train to London then 15mins district line tube to Hammersmith.

Much better than my previous commute which was 146 miles a day round trip from Kent to Reading....

The rents keep moaning at me managing to land jobs miles and miles away from wherever I happen to be living at the time. I've got a prospective new job lined up which will result in me doing two 28 mile journeys - one there once back. Is it really that bad?

In my previous job I drove 24 there and 24 back, taking between 30-45 minutes, that was avoiding all of the blackspots on the M6 though.

I do 25 miles each way, 20-35 mins, depending which route I take/traffic conditions/etc. It is average I would have thought.

From bedroom, down the stairs, through the kitchen (switch on coffee machine) into office.

Bliss :)

For the past 6 months about 130 miles each way (Greenwich to Banbury)... usually I try to stay in a hotel but when that isn't possible it is about 5 - 6 hours driving depending on the state of the M25.

23 miles each way to work, takes about 40 mins

22 miles each way to collage, takes about 30-35 mins

:)

easy to rack up the miles in the car...

40 odd miles.

Chelmsford village to the City.

Bike to station.. Train.. Walk

Can be tiresome but it's better than sitting in traffic jams for 10 million hours every day.

I love my house/work position, my office is 1.2 miles from Home
According to AA route planner my work is also 1.2miles from home.

Walking there and back each day usually takes about 10 or so mins each way. I don't expect I walk the whole 1.2miles as with shortcuts etc it's probably less than 1mile.

I walk home for lunch as well (to see the dog) so must walk a fair bit each day.

I personally do 1hr each way (door to door). That includes 15mins walk to station, 30mins train, 15mins walk to office.

However my house mates commutes from Colchester -> Heathrow every day. That's 2.5hrs each way!!! God knows how he manages not to die from exhaustion! He is intending on transferring to central Lon, but you gotta start from somewhere haven't you.

There was an article in the Metro earlier this week that said the length of your daily commute was directly proportional to how happy you are. Obviously it wasn't the only thing that effected happiness befor eanyone starts :)

For the record 7 miles each way takes 15mins in the motor

Yikes. That can't be fun in the winter?

I have considered getting a bike myself as I only have a 4 mile journey (8 total) per day. I'm too lazy though so far...

its not too bad, i rode it in the hail snow and 1 degree rain back in march times, in a t-shirt... as long as you have a pair of gloves and ride pretty hard its ok. but damn i want a car!

I live about 5 miles from where I work and I've just started walking there and back every day.
The boost of energy you get from a bit of excercise is amazing!

About 40 miles.

Train from Reading to Paddington then on to Victoria.

Works out about an hour door to door and I really do quite enjoy it

im soon to be going from a 30 min walk to and from work, to a 55 mile each way round trip on the train......

would drive, but its M3 and rather than the 1hr it takes on a train, ill be facing queues and queues

not ideal, but im going into a job that should* (if i work at it) reap the rewards of a development position

if you call having to make the extra travel a sacrifice, then its something im happy to do to ensure i get my career going :)
