How far would you commute

I was around 5 miles away from the office I used to work in, we was then bought out and moved to a office in Chorley (im South Manchester)

Its about 63 miles a day driving, which can take anything to a total of 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours a day total travelling.....

Seriously annoys me and im just waiting for my 1.2 corsa to explode!
 
Back when I was contracting I had to travel for four hours a day as I lived in the East End but worked in Bracknell. Luckily I was travelling the other direction to everyone else so the trains were bearable. Still tiring though.

Now I'm cycling for just over half an hour each way to work and I'm pretty happy.
 
My commute is a lot of effort at the moment, I'm currently;

-35 minute walk to the station
-40 minute train journey to work
-20 minute walk from station to work

And repeat in reverse order on my way home.

This is about to drop to a 15 minute tube journey come Sunday, hurray!
 
My current commute takes a 5 minute drive or a 15 minute walk (I've never walked).

I'm moving further away so will have a 30-40 minute drive but it's quite straight forward and also before rush hour. To be commuting over an hour I'd be wanting a higher salary. Though in this climate a job is a job and provided my commute should increase I would want to be reimbursed for it and no worse off so I wouldn't be too fussed.

A train journey wouldn't bother me at all providing I had a seat.

Mine varies and is approximately 20 miles each way.

<15 minutes = doable after midnight in/on a fast machine with dead roads
20-25 mins = doable averaging 70mph ish
30-40 mins = average time it takes
40-60 mins = traffic or issue on roads

To be honest I think my commute isn't too bad. I think a commute can depend a lot on the route you have to take. My commute has many different ways I can go so I can mix it up and it doesn't get too mundane. The time I would always like to get down, but I think that's a given for anyone. I wouldn't want it to be any longer put it that way, but I think as it is it's acceptable. Anymore and fuel cost becomes a major issue. It is already to be honest.
 
I'm doing 2 hours each way....

15 min walk to the station in the morning - 30 minutes to waterloo east..walk across to waterloo - train down to staines is just over 30 minutes - then another 15 minute walk :D

iPad + Kindle + Music + Sleep = easy :)

Haha, I'm commuting from Egham, just past Staines, into central London, it's so much effort!
 
A commute would have to be worth at least 40k for it to be longer than an hour. We're currently in the process of moving so that our commute will be less than 30 minutes.
 
I think that depends on:
-job itself,
- salary,
- way of commuting,
-personal life ie single, family etc.

You really wouldn’t commute far for a minimum wage job in Tesco, would you?
 
As with a few on here. Would entirely depend on the commute and the job/salary. I'd do the 2hrs to London and back (in first class) for 100k plus but would ensure that an employer recognised i was working during that period and thus was flexible around non-working days.

I wouldnt commute by car for more than 45mins, did 70 miles each way (1-1.5hr usually) for 2-3yrs racking up the miles and also the minutes spent in the car. Only takes one accident and you're stuck for 2-3hrs on the m'way. Plus the long drive on a monday morning and fridany night were a bit soul destroying!
 
I currently do a 45 minute commute 3 days a week, and about 5 minutes each way 2 days a week. It is dreadfully boring, I loath wasting 1.5 hours a day driving in traffic.
 
As I work on specific contracts, my place of work is never stationary apart from when I commute to the office. Currently we're doing some works on the Evergreen project so it could be anywhere between Birmingham (2 hours each way) to West London (15min from me). However, I can just book into a hotel if I want but that's not much consolation to be honest. The last few months it's been 40min each way as we've been working a specific area. Really been enjoyable actually as the guys I'm with is a great laugh and the journey is just flying by.
 
I commute on a motorbike, doing 9 miles each way but this is in South London so it takes 30-40min anyway. When I used to do the same in car it took me about 50min to get to work.

I think anything up to 1h is reasonable.
 
my last job was about an hour each way and i wouldn't want to commute any further by car again. the only positive to it was that i got an hour to gear myself up for the day and listen to music as opposed to my first ever job which was a 10 minute drive and took a bit of getting used to being only 10 minutes away from front door to work door.
 
Mine is about 1.5 hours - I don't think you want to do it long term. I'm only doing it until I find a suitable place to buy. You definitely don't want to be driving for that long because it will drive you mad. Train etc is fine if you're not in the rush hour crush and you can sit down for your journey, otherwise it will be hell.
